The woman turns and looks at me as we glide into the air. “?’Fraid not,” she says, smiling ruefully. “I don’t leave New York very often. This is my first time flying to Los Angeles.” Author Taylor Jenkins Reid based this idea on her love for the movie Sliding Doors. Unlike Sliding Doors Reid wanted this story to explore that there could be different decisions that lead you to different places and that maybe there really is not one person that is your soulmate. Maybe in Another Life is an examination on faith, choices, soulmates and that there are many ways that we can be happy.

Hannah meets up with her ex boyfriend Ethan in a bar, and this is where the show begins. We get two alternate universes that depend on whether Hannah stays with Ethan at the bar or whether she leaves with Gabby and her husband. I thought it was going to be like magical realism, where she gets to experience both realities and maybe have to choose one. I think this was even better. I found my emotions shifting between each reality and wow, it’s definitely not something I experience with every book. I stood at the wall for most of the night, killing time until I could leave. I was so bored that I thought about calling Gabby and persuading her to join me once her babysitting gig was over. But Jesse Flint was slow-dancing with Jessica Campos all night in the middle of the dance floor. And Gabby loved Jesse Flint, had been pining away for him since high school began. I couldn’t do that to her. Overwhelmed by confusion and despair, Hannah is glad that her parents and sister have flown into town. However, soon after their arrival, Hannah realizes that she cannot reconcile their presence in her life. She begs them to leave so she can heal alone. After their departure, she begins relying more heavily on her relationship with Gabby.I loved Reid's The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, but was recently disappointed with the interview transcript format of Daisy Jones & The Six (I've heard it's better as an audiobook). So I decided to dig out one of the author's older novels. And, sure enough, Reid stole my heart once again. When you sit there and wish things had happened differently, you can’t just wish away the bad stuff. You have to think about all the good stuff you might lose, too. Better to just stay in the now and focus on what you can do better in the future.” Evidence of the Affair is Taylor Jenkins Reid’s only short stories and it was first published in 2018. The story is told completely through letters between two strangers and two illicit lovers and is Taylor’s seventh highest rated book on Goodreads. He still, all these years later, shines brighter to me than other people. Even after I got over him, I was never able to extinguish the fire completely, as if it’s a pilot light that will remain small and controlled but very much alive.

The book almost feels like a choose your own adventure as two different timelines, two different possibilities unfold. That night splits, and Hannah's story unfolds in ways one would not expect. But in this universe of infinite potentials, in the string theory of love (cheesy, I know! Pun intended) anything is possible. "There is another version of you out there, created the second the quarter flipped, who saw it come up tails. This is happening every second of every day. The world is splitting further and further into an infinite number of parallel universes where everything that could happen is happening. This is completely plausible, by the way. It’s a legitimate interpretation of quantum mechanics. It’s entirely possible that every time we make a decision, there is a version of us out there somewhere who made a different choice. An infinite number of versions of ourselves are living out the consequences of every single possibility in our lives. What I’m getting at here is that I know there may be universes out there where I made different choices that led me somewhere else, led me to someone else.” I’m going to guess there’s at least four bottles of Orange Ginger body lotion in here,” Gabby says as she grabs one of my bags off the carousel. Reid graduated from Emerson College in Boston and majored in media studies. [1] [2] She began her career in film production. [3] The official synopsis reads: “Aging and reclusive Hollywood movie icon Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life. But when she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one is more astounded than Monique herself. Why her? Why now?”

A moment later, Ethan offers to give her a ride later if she wants to stay. Hannah hesitates. What happens if she leaves with Gabby? What happens if she leaves with Ethan? for too long i've decided on what to read by "whether the plot sounds like something i could possibly be interested in for even a second" or "if this book sounds like a full-on nightmare or not" but no more!
