About this deal

Not only are massage guns becoming increasingly popular, but they're also an essential tool in aiding recovery. As athletes push their bodies harder and harder, recovery becomes that much more important. Ask any workout instructor or athletic trainer, and they'll tell you that proper recovery (which includes exercises like foam rolling) is one of the most—if not the most—important parts of a well-rounded fitness regimen. If you don't allow your body to recover, then you become more prone to injury, fatigue, soreness, and so much more. While both massage guns are designed for a similar use, the brands definitely went about it in different ways. The Hypervolt Go has a traditional gun-like shape, while the Theragun Mini has a handheld, triangular design. (The Hypervolt Go also advertises that its design is TSA-approved for carry-on, but countless Theragun Mini users have flown with their massager without any issues.)

Portable, massage gun options have come a long way in the past few years, becoming smaller, yet more powerful as the tech advances. In terms of the most travel-friendly massage guns, two options are battling it out for the title of best: Theragun Mini vs Hypervolt Go. (Note that for this article, I’ll be comparing the most recent models of these two massagers —the Theragun Mini 2.0 and the Hypervolt Go 2.) The Hyperice app is free, and it’s filled with valuable tips for using the Hypervolt Go. The brand says the Hypervolt Go can help with things like your range of motion and help you feel more flexible, but it can be confusing to know where to begin. The app actually shows you ways to use the device with guided video tutorials and routines. We also love that the handle is fully rubberized which makes the device even more comfortable to use.

The Hyperice Hypervolt GO 2 is a solid piece of kit. It really is the smaller version of the big Hypervolt 2, and I mean this as a compliment. The main difference between the two – apart from the size, of course – is that the Hypervolt GO 2 has a slightly angled handle.

We can, however, recommend it to those who already own any of the regular sized Hypervolts just as a complimentary gun. The heads are interchangeable, so it makes sense to get one if you need something smaller and more portable.Still, you can use the app with your device to learn different massaging techniques – what to do and what not to do. We feel the Go is an entry-level mini massage gun at best. The low stall force doesn’t do justice to the fairly impressive amplitude and the high intensity that this device is capable of delivering.

We measured the sound with the attachments fixed properly and we got 45 to about 54-55 dB. Hypervolt Go noise measurement (around 55dB at top speed). Before we talk the performance, we will mention one killer feature of the Mini Pro massage gun: the extensible handle. The app itself isn’t very user-friendly — I struggled to find a routine, and as the Hypervolt Go 2 couldn’t connect to the app via Bluetooth, there’s no indication of force, or what speed you should be using the gun at — the addition of both would be great for beginners. I also found a lot of the routines were pretty long, my go-to lower-body sequence took 24 minutes, which is as long as my strength workout on some days. That said, I liked the in-app timer and the video demonstration with a voice-over that gave me instructions and tips. I also liked seeing a real person using the gun, rather than a diagram. Hyperice Hypervolt Go 2 review: VerdictWe might recommend the Go to you if you already own either the Hypervolt BT or the BT Plus as a complimentary device. This is because the attachments are interchangeable. At 1.5 pounds, the Hypervolt Go 2 is seriously light. Surprisingly light, in fact, when you consider its top speed of 3,200 PPM — about the same as that of far more expensive, and heftier massage guns on the market. It’s lightweight enough to be portable and is approved by the TSA to stow in your carry-on, however, it doesn’t come in a carry case, which is a little disappointing, especially when the likes of the Theragun Mini does. Even though it’s just the 3 speed gears, for a mini massage gun you probably will not require more. Many massage guns will come with specific instructions about what attachments to use on what muscles. Make sure to read them when you’re in doubt.
