Feed your appetite with access to easy, healthy recipes to help you reach your nutrition goals and bring your wellness full circle. The responsibility for recording and acting on the result generally lies with whoever requested the test. This could have been in primary or secondary care depending on local pathways. Please refer to local guidance as this may vary. Both of these words are also adjectives, where they mean healthy and tailored to the wearer, respectively. The BSG/ACPGBI has also published UK-wide guidance (2022) to support the implementation of FIT symptomatic in primary care and align nations. It recommends using FIT in nearly all symptomatic patients as a triage tool to help identify which patients should be referred into secondary care. Key points to remember when using FIT in primary care:

STRESS LESS: Listen to audio sessions to lessen stress and improve your mood. Use mindfulness to start your day a better way, find moments of calm and set intentions with meditation or get help falling asleep with breathing exercises and relaxing sounds.*

What is FIT?

These charts aren’t exhaustive in their scope of written use, since they only look at books published in English since 1800. Still, they are helpful in illustrating long-term usage patterns, but they are less helpful in cases where usage frequencies are close or volatile (as is the case in the British English use of fit) . The Feed-in Tariffs (FIT) scheme was designed by government to promote the uptake of renewable and low-carbon electricity generation. You also need to meet some other criteria to be offered the test; these criteria have been developed by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence and local cancer services after reviewing all the evidence. Clinical features - including the presence of anaemia and other signs/symptoms - remain key, as does clinical suspicion. BSG advises using FIT in primary care to select and prioritise patients presenting with potential symptoms of colorectal cancer for further investigation.

Storing Your Completed FIT

Perfect your mindfulness practice with a full library of sessions that calm anxiety, prep for sleep and even help you meditate while walking. A negative FIT result does not rule out the possibility of cancer. Patients with a negative result should be safety netted until symptoms are explained or resolved. Benefits of using FIT in secondary care: Since fit is a skinny word, and people who are in good shape are more likely to be skinny, you can easily remember that fit means to be in good shape. Summary FIT is not required for all symptomatic patients. In all UK nations (except for Northern Ireland) those with rectal/anal mass and/or anal ulceration can be referred onto urgent lower GI pathway without a FIT. One use of fitted that is unlikely to change is its use as an adjective. In this sense, fitted means designed to fit well.

Fitbit is ramping up its efforts to better explore your stress, using the onboard EDA (electrodermal activity sensor) to take on the spot stress readings. You now also get mindfulness audio sessions that live in the companion app and you’ll need to grab some headphones for. Mowat C, Digby J, Strachan JA, McCann R, Hall C, Heather D, et al. This applies to people who do not, and those who are unable to, complete and return their kit. Provide patients with information and resources that will encourage and enable them to complete their test. In CRUK’s Public Omnibus survey (July 2022) the most popular prompts to completing a FIT centred around clear explanations of how to do the test (via a step-by-step guide, in-person explanations, and an online video) and information on why this test was important [14]. Please see the ‘Resources’ drop down below to access CRUK’s patient resources. FIT is an important and useful decision aid, but evidence shows that FIT can miss around 5-17% of colorectal cancers at the recommended threshold [1-12]. This figure is collated from multiple studies, with different study populations and design, leading to a wide range in sensitivity data. It is vital to safety net patients who have received a FIT result below the recommended threshold for referral but have ongoing symptoms. The main use for the FIT test is as to find early bowel cancer. Blood in the stool may be the only symptom of early cancer. If the cancer is detected before it spreads to other areas, there is a greater chance it will be cured. The signs and symptoms of bowel cancer are not always easy to see. In some patients, with an abdominal or rectal mass, rectal bleeding, anal ulceration or if they are age >60 y with iron deficiency anaemia. Your GP will request you are seen by the hospital urgently as a “two week wait patient” and you will not be offered a FIT test. In other patients where the signs and symptoms are less clear your GP may think you could have bowel cancer but wants to be more certain that this is the case. In these circumstances a FIT test will help them decide.
