About this deal

Expressive Mask: In traditional fashion, Batman's cowl and Robin's mask emote with their eyes, as does David's cowl as Boy Thunder. Meanwhile, Joker and Luthor meet at a LexCorp aeronautics factory, where Luthor informs Joker and Harley that he intends to kill them and frame them for all the mayhem that's been going on. Joker turns the tables and takes both Luthor and Mercy prisoner. Since he can no longer collect his billion dollars, Joker decides on a "consolation prize": Luthor's gigantic and heavily armed Lexwing airship (having Harley paint it so that it resembles a grinning mouth). Luthor asks how much he'll have to pay for his release, but Joker says he isn't interested in money anymore. Instead, he wants to destroy everything Luthor built, just as Batman destroyed everything that he built. Batman examines the room's contents: barrels of hydrochloric acid, too weak to eat through the walls or door, but instead Batman uses it to dissolve the Kryptonite. Recovering from its effects, Superman is just able to smash their way out of the room, taking Batman and Lois with him. They confront Joker, who distracts them with grenades made to look like marbles. The trio flees the laboratory, which is destroyed in an explosion. So the art by Dan Mora was phenomenal. The coloring by Tamra Bonvillain was understated compared to a lot of coloring I see these days and I dug it. Alan Burnett has stated that the "World's Finest" episodes were a highlight of his career, and may even be one of his favorite things he's ever worked on. [2]

Dead Alternate Counterpart: The Sikelas are still alive on the main Earth the story takes place in, resulting in David rushing to meet them. Unbeknownst to him, these Sikelas had recently lost their son David and the "reunion" goes poorly. Nezha uses his powers to mentally control several superheroes, forcing Batman and Superman to fight them. The story itself is nothing special but team-ups like this usually have flimsy stories anyway so that's not really a big deal. I think my main problem with this story was the tone of the dialog. It's quippy as hell and gets rid of any sense of jeopardy. There are a lot of cool moments but super heroes making quips while allegedly fighting for their lives seriously gets on my nerves. Sure, I know none of the money makers are going to die but at least make me think they might for a few seconds. Ascended Meme: The infamous "Batman slaps Robin" meme was parodied with two variant ◊ covers ◊ of the first issue, with Batman and Superman slapping each other for putting their own name first in the title. That night, Joker sets up his base in Metropolis, gassing a local crime boss and taking his hideout and his cowered thugs for his own. The boss is later found, hysterical with laughter, by the Metropolis police.

New ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ #26 variant cover hints a death is coming

With so much content thrown in each of the five issues, not least with the new devilish antagonist Nezha, artist Dan Mora is having an absolute blast here. Embracing a classic look of these iconic characters, Mora’s modern. clean line-work presents kinetic set-pieces where there is a variety of superpowers, whilst not afraid of presenting new territories for the characters to go to, including a Dragon Ball Z-styled fusion, which is absurdly fun.

That morning, Lex makes a public statement that the explosion was only a minor problem but is furious with Joker for destroying his property. Clark, among the reporters, hears Luthor mention of his deal with Joker. Luthor confronts Joker and gives him a second chance to kill Superman but insists that it's his last (while the two men are discussing the situation, Harley and Mercy are doing their best to kill each other bare-fisted). This is a promising start to this 12 issue series starring Batman and Superman (together again...). Mark Waid is always entertaining for me and I like how retro this book feels, both in story and art. But in a good way! It's a straightforward action mystery adventure and Waid pulls a lot of DC's other heroes into the story in ways that don't feel forced. The classic Doom Patrol makes an extended guest appearance and is pivotal to the story. As this tale takes place some time ago, we also see classic Wonder Girl (red jumpsuit) and Kid Flash costumes. Call-Forward: In issue #14, when trying to figure out who killed Simon Stagg, Robin says that Bruce wouldn't kill anyone so forward, he'd probably hire someone to do it, someone with a personal grudge. This is basically the plot of Bruce Wayne: Fugitive.

‘DC Silent Tales’ #1 proves a picture is worth a thousand words

Didn't Think This Through: Professor Ivo captured Will Magnus and forced him to build a Responsometer for Amazo. Whoops — once he activated it, the robot immediately rebelled against his creator, captured the two along with other major scientists and begin a Robot Uprising.

The next day, an insect-like probe droid, the Wayne/Lex T-7, crawls through a canyon even scaling walls. Bruce is pleased with how well his and Luthor's companies have collaborated in developing robots for space exploration. Luthor says the robots would be even more useful for military purposes, but Bruce, who under their agreement has sole control over the technology's uses and more so with his hatred for guns, firmly squelches the idea.

The Dark Knight. The Man of Steel. They are the two finest superheroes that the world has ever known...and they’re together again in an epic new series from the legendary talents of Mark Waid and Dan Mora! The Cameo: Duncan and Bridgette from Once & Future, one of Dan Mora's previous works, can be seen among the civilians captured by the Big Bad in Issue #16. Depite this minor issue I enjoyed Worlds Finest, it's a lot of fun for any super hero movie fan and still better than Batman vs Superman (2016)
