In November 1945, magazine publisher R. H. Fleischmann wrote to Addams asking when he could return to work:

a b c d e Pace, Eric (September 30, 1988). "Charles Addams Dead at 76; Found Humor in the Macabre". The New York Times . Retrieved October 11, 2009.Hall’s wife later admitted to sending him information regarding Walter’s case and writing to Walter while impersonating a stripper, hoping to get more details. She also stated that Hall told her that Walter never confessed while in jail. The prosecution at the time also failed to disclose Wolchansky’s mental health issues. There was further evidence that Barbara died of asphyxiation and not a beating, which did little to support the events of Walter’s supposed confession. A review of the case showed that despite her head injuries, Horn likely died from asphyxiation, court documents revealed. Five different eyewitnesses told authorities they saw a man carrying the television box down the street on July 12. Horn’s stepfather said she was last seen at around 3:00 p.m. that day at their home and her body was found at 5:30 p.m. by a neighbor just a thousand feet away from the residence. Barbara was a little girl living with her mother, Sharon Fahy, and her stepfather, John Fahy, at the time of the incident. They resided in Northeast Philadelphia in what was, by all means, a peaceful community. Sharon was off at work when the incident happened. John was at home while Barbara went out to look for someone to play with sometime in the afternoon on July 12, 1988. Image Credit: 6ABC

When Walter stood trial for the first time in October 1993, a jury didn’t initially buy the confession, and Walter was about to be acquitted when one jury member changed his mind, leading to a mistrial. Then, during his second trial in 1996, the prosecution relied on the testimony from a jailhouse informant named Jay Wolchansky, who claimed that Walter confessed to killing Barbara while they were in prison together. A jury convicted Walter of murder and attempted involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, sentencing him to death. One of Horn’s neighbors, Walter Ogrod, was convicted of her murder and received the death penalty. He served 28 years in prison before a review of the case determined that Ogrod, who is autistic, had been coerced into confessing to authorities. Additional DNA testing also concluded that Ogrod was innocent and he was released in June 2020.On the occasion of his 100th birthday, January 7, 2012, Charles Addams was honored with a Google Doodle. [23] Not everything in Addams’s Army life was centered on the military. He married his first wife, Barbara Jean Day on May 29, 1943, during basic training. Many of Addams’s contemporaries would claim she was the inspiration for the Addams family matriarch, Morticia, asshe shared somephysical features and personality traits. Trivia [ ] She is survived by her three children Bonnie Summers (Dan), Ralph “Buff” Brotherton (Cecelia) and James “Jamie” Brotherton. (Theresa) Addams had a sterling reputation with the magazine that treated him well for a decade, and without hesitation he asked for a discharge from the U.S. Army. His reasoning was well founded and not without some witty sarcasm and self-promotion:

During an investigation into Ogrod’s conviction, authorities identified two possible suspects for Horn’s murder, Cummings told NBC Philadelphia. One of the two is now dead, the outlet reported, while the other is in prison for another crime but neither has been publicly identified. Williams, Christian (November 17, 1982). "Charles Addams".
