Charrouf, Z., & Guillaume, D. (2011). The rebirth of the argan tree, or how to stop the desert while giving a future to Amazigh women in Morocco. In R. N. Harpelle & B. Muirhead (Eds.), Long-term solutions for a short-term world (pp. 71–86). Waterloo: WLU Press. Moroccan women have long used argan oil to protect their skin from sun damage, a practice was supported by a 2013 study. This study found that the antioxidant activity in argan oil helped protect the skin against free radical damage caused by the sun. This prevented burns and hyperpigmentation as a result. Long term, this may even help prevent against the development of skin cancer, including melanoma.
