About this deal

Soon after a visitor from London claims to have seen the ghost of a local child, she disappears. Are the two things connected? Is there a secret someone is trying desperately to cover up? Detectives Jimmy Perez and Willow Reeves will investigate. The Vera Stanhope novels have been dramatised as the TV detective series Vera beginning in 2011; the Jimmy Perez novels as the TV series Shetland; and the Matthew Venn novel The Long Call (from Cleeves' Two Rivers book series) as the TV series The Long Call (premiered autumn 2021). Then an elderly woman is shot in a tragic accident in the middle of the night. Shetland detective Jimmy Perez is called in by her grandson – his own colleague, Sandy Wilson. Sweden: Swedish public broadcaster SVT started airing the 3rd series in January 2016 on their primary network SVT1. [47] Ann Cleeves is] in her element in this extraordinary landscape, with its old croft houses and modern oilfields - and water, water everywhere."

Some of Ann's classic crime novels will be easier to find in the future, with a series of new editions from Pan Macmillan. 2023 started with two stunning standalone mysteries, The Sleeping and the Dead and Burial of Ghosts: now readers have the chance to discover Ann's very first detective series, featuring George Palmer-Jones, an elderly birdwatcher - helped by his wife, Molly. This popular series begins when a teenage girl's body is discovered near the home of a local outcast. Jimmy Perez investigates, and while suspicious initially falls on the outcast, the investigation soon turns into something no one expected.

But with the tide rising, secrets long-hidden are finding their way to the surface, and Vera and the team may find themselves in more danger than they could have believed possible . . . Ann Cleeves' bestselling series of crime novels, featuring Detective Jimmy Perez, and now also adapted for a major BBC television series, draw their inspiration from the place in which they take place: Shetland. Ann Cleeves' fellow crime fiction practitioners (from Colin Dexter to Peter Robinson) have been lining up to sing her praises, and it's unlikely that there will be any blip in that chorus of praise on the evidence of Red Bones, which is quite as assured and entertaining as its predecessors,."

With such a low population area (roughly 20,000 people), it does get a bit ridiculous to have TOO many murders. Even Midsomer (of Midsomer Murders) is a county made up of many villages and larger towns. That's a bit part of why the TV series often ventures to other areas.

Cleeves is a master of the stunning twist... She's also an expert stylist of deceptively spare prose and a creator of entirely realistic characters; this time out, she focuses on Sandy Wilson, thought to be dim and immature but who, under Perez's guidance, becomes one of her most intriguing creations. In Shetland, the weather matters. Everyone knows which way the wind is blowing. In this book I hope to take you on a journey through a year in the life of the islands. You'll meet Shetland's people, celebrate its festivals and see how the flora and fauna change with the seasons. By the end I hope you'll understand why the place means so much to me." Pérez and Tosh's investigation leads them to Glasgow, where they hope to uncover the truth behind Maguire's brutal death and his connection to Robbie Morton. Old ghosts return to haunt Pérez, with his enemies trying to prevent him from getting to the truth. Elenco Serie Tv 2018: calendario partenze" (in Italian). 11 December 2017 . British Academy Scotland Awards: Winners in 2016". www.bafta.org. 3 October 2016 . Retrieved 9 July 2018.Cunning character play and deception play their part in this satisfying tale, bringing about a denouement that turns everything in the plot neatly and bewilderingly on its head." Kate Bartlett, Executive Producer, Silverprint Pictures, adds: “It has been amazing to have the opportunity to complete the story of Jimmy Perez and Douglas Henshall is outstanding in the role. We had an incredible Scottish cast and crew and David Kane has created a distinctive and emotionally complex story that unfolds against the stunning, evocative landscapes of Shetland. I'm very proud of this series and excited for the new series to come.” The hit TV crime drama takes as its point of departure the characters and settings of Ann Cleeves's award-winning series of novels, but has developed its own stories, and over time the two have diverged. As series 7 began, Douglas Henshall dropped a bombshell, announcing that this would be his last season as Jimmy Perez. He said "It's been one of the privileges of my career to play Jimmy Perez for almost 10 years and to work with so many wonderful people both in front of and behind the camera, and also to spend so much time in Shetland." The good news is that the show will carry on - but without Perez, series 8 will be even more different from the books. In this gloriously illustrated companion to her novels, Ann Cleeves takes readers through a year on Shetland, learning about its past, meeting its people, celebrating its festivals and seeing how the flora and fauna of the islands change with the seasons. From the drama of the Viking fire festival of Up Helly Aa in winter to the piercing blue and hot pink of the cliff-top flowers in spring, and from the long, white night of midsummer to the fierce gales and high tide of autumn. Shetland is vividly captured in all its bleak and special beauty.
