While the original 3020 speakers didn’t display any trouble in that department, these new units just sound more eloquent. It’s a little easier to tell the production values apart in different songs. Mission LX-2 MK II (300€) looks like a good deal, but are they fatiguing? I heard them with my amp briefly and they were lively and realistic. They made an impression on me, but didn't get a chance to listen to them for more than 20min at low to medium volumes. And yes, the edgy and aggressive nature of the upper mids and treble remained on this album. You couldn’t get away from that. Nevertheless, the bass did cushion that effect to reduce the nasty elements and reduced listening fatigue to a minimum. Compared to the 3020i, the 3030i just feels like “more.” More bass, more dynamics, a more realistic soundstage. They sound bigger than you’d expect from what is still a fairly compact speaker.
