About this deal
The quality of a splitting wedge is tied to the material it’s made of, but that’s not the only factor at play. Shape With this, I was able to use the grenade log splitter on just about every size of log. It obviously performs much better on smaller logs, but it’s more than capable of splitting large logs with a bigger diameter too.
There are plenty of different ways to split firewood. You can bust it apart by hand using a splitting maul, spend some cash on a hydraulic splitting machine (like the Forest Master FM5), or try out one of the hundreds of different ways to process logs into useable firewood. Using a splitting wedge also means you won’t be wearing down your axes or risking breaking your tools, such as the axe handle. These two new tools came into the ‘armoury’this week and not before time because I always end up with 2 or 3 big logs that laugh at my normal axe (as it bounces off). But now I have two sure fire ways of splitting those difficult to break logs. Logs become difficult to split usually because there was a large branch joining the main trunk, which makes the grain real gnarly. No1: The Splitting MaulIn terms of noise, I’d say that this log splitter is quieter than an axe. It was also quieter than many of the other splitters that I tested, making it ideal for people with neighbours in close proximity.
There isn’t much assembly involved with this wood splitter. It comes with four screws that you use to attach the tool to a base log – choose one that’s relatively tall to save you from having to stoop over. Ignore the metal pipe that comes in the box – this isn’t needed unless you also have a tool called the Smart Splitter. If the logs that you’re splitting are large, around 30 cm in height, you’ll need a hydraulic log splitter or a large manual splitter. On the other hand, if your logs are only about 15 cm tall, then a manual log splitter should be suitable. These limitations apply to the diameter of the logs as well, so choose a log splitter with appropriate specifications.

They’ve been thoroughly reviewed online and have held up admirably against their manufacture’s claims. All in all, any one of the wedges above would work well for years to come. More From Timber Gadgets
