About this deal

The love story, of course, is one of my favorite aspects of the novel. I love a good romance, and this one is beyond fabulous. Remy and Hale have amazing chemistry from their very first meeting, and I enjoyed their growth as individuals and as a couple. They are so strong apart, but even stronger together, and their banter is fantastic. Their every encounter is filled with chemistry, equally sweet and steamy, and I so rooted for them to admit their feelings for each other. Of course, with so many obstacles standing in their way, their road to happiness is complex. Overall: I think that this book had a lot of potential, but the writing was just so poor that it ruined the entire thing for me. I saw this on BookTok a few times and decided to give it a whirl, it was said to be as addicting as ACOTAR was...but as BookTok has shown me time and time again...they were wrong.

Content Warnings: death of a parent, mentions of mental/emotional abuse from a parent, murder, blood, consensual sex, cheating (not between fmc and li) This story continues to exhibit the robust writing style and worldbuilding we’ve come to expect from Mulford while giving her opportunities to organically expand her world as well. I do think we are told some information over again that by the third book we should be familiar with, but also understand that there may be gaps in-between readings for readers so some reminders are needed. I enjoyed that while this does have the spice and a sapphic romance, she also builds platonic and familial relationships as well making the world seem more real than if it was just about the spice. Just like the previous books in the Five Crowns of Okrith series, I absolutely adored this fun high fantasy romance novel. It’s pretty fast paced but has a couple of slower moments in the earlier parts, but overall it’s an amazing diverse fantasy novel with fae and witches. I loved seeing another part of Okrith and thought that the environment and culture of the Western Court was very interesting and kept me invested in the court. She gets a less than warm welcome from the county as her mother was banished from the west with her twin babes after a prophecy was foretold that Bri would snatch the crown from the sovereign. Speaking of diversity, we also have a character, Bria's sister, who is half-fae/half-human, and I thought that was interesting... But she as well got a mention in a chapter, and then vanished from the rest of the story. It felt like another wasted opportunity.A.K. Mulford is a bestselling fantasy author and former wildlife biologist who swapped rehabilitating monkeys for writing novels. This was definitely at times one of the hardest of these novels so far to read due to the amount of loss and grief involved, but honestly, Mulford's treatment of those moments was so elegantly and gently handled, it was an emotional, but appreciated effort. In the end, the main characters were extremely hard to relate to. I could not imagine them as real people, even in their universe.

She now lives in New Zealand with her husband and two young human primates, creating lovable fantasy characters and making ridiculous Tiktoks (@akmulfordauthor). Expect magic, adventure, and sapphic romance in this thrilling third installment of the bestselling, high fantasy saga The Five Crowns of Okrith. Remy che viene smascherata dalle voglie che ha sui polsi mi ha fatto morire. In senso letterale. Come cazzo fai a non accorgerti di avere una costellazione sulla pelle. Costellazione che è poi messa nell’araldica della Corte del Nord? Quanto scema devi essere?Princess Abalina Thorne (Lina) is still grieving her mother, and knowing Bri’s abilities, she allows her to serve as one of her guards. As witch hunters continue to wreak havoc, Bri and Lina must work together to figure out the plot against them. While Bri is trying to concentrate on keeping the Princess safe, Lina is realizing that she is one of the few people she can trust – and they both start to lose their hearts to one another. Can they discover who is trying to kill the Princess, and quell the rebellion, without falling for each other in the process? In short? ACOTAR + TOG + FBAA mush that went wrong (style i repeat what i read without understanding the assignment, I am being harsh but it’s been a while since I read an almost rip off book). Full of romance, intrigue, magic, and passion, the first book of The Five Crowns of Okrith—the thrilling TikTok sensation from A.K. Mulford— The High Mountain Court begins the journey of the fugitive red witch Remy as she fights to reclaim her kingdom and discover what’s inside her heart.

Never let anyone else tell you who you are, Remy, not even me. No one decides how bright you shine but you.” The High Mountain Court thrusts us into a fantastical world of witches, magic, Fae, and warring Courts. My first issue with this book is the POV. We see everything through Remy's eyes. I'm not a big fan of this type of storytelling, especially for books marketed towards a more mature audience. It truly narrows the interpretation a reader can come up with for key elements of the story. Anyway, Remy, as a character, was promising at the beginning. She seems far from naïve and works at a tavern while hiding her witch powers. She recognizes faes and potential threats, takes a lot of initiative when she must save herself and those around her. I thought I would like her.

For thirteen years, nineteen-year-old Remy has known she is possibly the last red witch alive, and she is determined to stay that way. But the Northern Court King, who has slaughtered her family and placed a bounty on red witch heads, is intent on destroying her kind once and for all. I LOVED this book and it was the perfect one for getting me out of my reading slump. 𝙁𝙖𝙚, 𝙍𝙤𝙮𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙮, 𝙒𝙞𝙩𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙨, 𝙈𝙖𝙜𝙞𝙘, 𝙈𝙪𝙧𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙨 𝙋𝙡𝙤𝙩𝙨, 𝙏𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙨 𝙌𝙪𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙨, 𝙎𝙡𝙤𝙬 𝘽𝙪𝙧𝙣 𝙍𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚, 𝙎𝙥𝙞𝙘𝙚, 𝙨𝙤𝙧𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙀𝙣𝙚𝙢𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙇𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨, you name it and the book has it! No." Lina's voice grew distant..."But neither are you my ally. You are something entirely your own, Briata Catullus. I just wish I knew what." Bri is charged with guarding Princess Abalina, who is more than a handful in a land where no one can be trusted. Worldbuilding is done very well, and you learn more and more about the world, the politics and the history, as the story continues in each book and novella. There are fae and humans. There are five courts of Okirth – The High, North, South, West and East Courts. Fae are the royalty of each court. There is quite a bit of intrigue between the courts, the witches, humans and Fae. I think Mulford does a great job of showing us pieces of the world to build that history and different cultures between each court and kind of witch.
