The entire thing takes place in a matter of a couple of months, most of the time being spent in jumps. It seems as though either the details needed to be greater, or the scope of time needed to be greater. When you focus on that limited of time, it seems like it would be necessary to get down to the fine details. Another issue is the scope of the setting. Nearly everything takes place in a single valley, yet the reader is supposed to be made to believe that the impending peril is overwhelming. The third and probably largest issue I found was that there were occasions when the grammar and syntax seemed to change jarringly for a few sentences. I don't know if this is caused by having two authors contributing, or if it was added to make the book seem more fantastical. Either way, it would completely jolt me out of any level of immersion.
