The feet were something that Barry and I actually had a chat about early on. Usually you have full use of your toes and can move them around, but we never quite found a way to do that. They wanted to elongate Vecna’s feet. He did ask me, “If there was one thing you could change, what would it be?” And I said I’d definitely be interested in doing more with the feet. But the walk was at first on my own figuring out the stillness and purpose of why I was walking the way I was walking. And then I had to try to make it as natural and realistic as possible while wearing the [costumed] feet. In terms of gait and poise and posture, it was about: Where is the power coming from? Where is that center of gravity? I don’t have to be wild and manic, I can be precise and chosen, and dominating. All told, Jamie shot for 25 days and every day involved the same elaborate process. “It was just this massive production line,” Gower said. “We shot 25 days with Jamie and every day needed a brand-new set of appliances because when we removed them at the end of the day, we needed to use a mineral oil, which destroyed all the fragile, delicate edges where everything overlapped.” The costume and setup might have been spooky to some, especially those unfamiliar with the show. Well, now we know! When the Duffers sat you down and explained everything to you, and told you that Vecna is the source of everything bad that has happened on Stranger Things, what questions did you have for them? They had a special undercarriage that we could pop open, so Jamie could go to the loo, and the big long finger extensions had to be detachable and removable, so he would have his hands free as well in between setups,’ Barrie said.

He was coming from cold, barren, Indiana! The team’s immense hard work definitely paid off, as they were instrumental in creating one of the scariest, most gruesome and sensational-looking villains ever seen on TV. The office transformation for the "Stranger Things" theme took roughly a week. Every light in the office was replaced with a dim purple bulb, complemented with a fog machine and strobe lighting. One area was transformed into the Rainbow Room at Hawkins Lab, with walls made of white sheets and rainbow duct tape. Portals leading to the "Upside Down" were opened in the office, one of which had a mirror attached to the ceiling along with red LED lighting, cotton balls and a rope made of sheets dangling to the ground (if you know, you know). Feeling like a misunderstood, rebellious cheerleader? Cue up the Chrissy costume! And subsequently, the “Chrissy Wake Up” song that people will be singing to you all night. The last part of the process would involve Jamie being covered in a clear gel, like a KY jelly, ‘basically effectively like a lube that would cover his whole body to make him very, very glossy’. What was the most difficult aspect of making Vecna a reality?
