About this deal

The Seiko Prospex Diver 62MAS Interpretation 140th Anniversary SPB213J1 is a limited edition of 6,000 pieces and is now available from boutiques and retailers. It is priced at EUR 1,250. But, first and foremost, it is a through and through dive watch. Equipped with a 20 ATM water resistance that is compliant with rigorous NIHS 92-11 standards (equivalent to ISO 6425), the timepiece can be submerged to great depths without any concerns. Although it comes with a seemingly astonishing 300m (1,000ft) water resistance, the watch is not meant for deep diving and not even for shallow diving. The resistance level has been tested in still water conditions for a couple of minutes, which doesn’t take into account real conditions underwater. Therefore, use it for swimming and snorkeling only. Japan’s Seiko watches are on a roll and a slew of new watches for 2020 have something from just about all watch-lovers, whether their timepiece budget is a few hundred dollars or a few thousand. Today, I look at the Seiko Prospex “King Samurai” SRPE35 and SRPE37 watches that build upon the popular Seiko Prospex Samurai collection. The “King” part of the name implies a few welcome upgrades to the core watches, including a ceramic bezel insert, sapphire crystal, and new more attractive, textured dial.

The dial beneath the mineral crystal is of white mother of pearl that houses gold-tone hands and hour markers and a magnified date window. I have to say that I prefer the white dial SPB161 over the dark blue dial SPB163 by a considerable margin. This preference is largely due to how much clearer and observable the enamel work is when done in white, which results in a rich milky look that is obviously not visible in the blue. The framing of the subdials and inner ring is more visible on the blue dial, at least to me. Still, the white with those blue hands is classic Presage and is preferable. While on that topic, I am fairly certain that these hands are painted blue and not flamed. But what catches the eye with this Seiko is the icy blue tone on a white dial. The combination of the colors makes it really stand out from the crowd by providing a unique appeal. The hour markers that remind the monster’s teeth are other eye-catching elements. Along with watch hands, they come with fantastic luminosity, too.A scratch-resistant hardlex crystal keeps the dial safe, with the watch also rated down to 100m of water resistance. Inside the case you’ve got a Seiko Seiko Caliber 7S36 movement, delivering 40 hours of automatic timekeeping which is a nice surprise at this price point. While this article is focused on Seiko, this is a great alternative to one of the best budget field watches around, the Hamilton Khaki Field. As such, the vast majority of the brand’s watches come with a proprietary Luminox Light Technology that comprises tritium tubes placed on hands and hour markers with a 25-year lifetime. Luminox watches are thus one of the best luminous timepieces one can have. This is one of the best Seiko field watches around and only gets better when you consider the price point. You’re getting a nice field watch design, on a steel bracelet, with an automatic movement and 100m of water resistance – what more could you need?! 3. Seiko Solar SNE329 (Solar Powered)

There is a wide array of automatic watches with designs inspired by diving watches in the Seiko 5 Sports collection. These include the refs. SRPD51K1, SRPD63K1, and SRPD55K2. The first two models belong to the Seiko 5 Sports family, while the latter is part of the Specialist series. All three watches are similar in terms of technology and design. This premium-level watch is a purpose-built diver with its 300m (1,000ft) water resistance. Combined with bright luminescence and a stylishly designed one-way rotating bezel, it is as practical as dive watches go these days. In terms of other aspects of the appearance, the dial is unique for not only the light-toned creamy color but also for the fully luminous dial, along with lume-filled hands. The hour markers are bold and rectangularly shaped but don’t come luminescent (for obvious reasons, of course). Prices for standard models like the SPB121J1 with a green sunburst dial fall around 700 USD. For limited models, expect prices from 1,100 USD. Baby Alpinist

About H. Samuel

Although the SRPG47K1 is not a professional diver’s watch (it has a non-ISO 10 ATM water resistance) but rather a desk-diver, it comes with top-notch quality.
