The Wilson set is definitely one that you should consider, with the positives heavily outweighing the negatives. The lower, scoring end of the bag, is superb and could even rival a few of the best wedgesand puttersthat are available on the market. I have to say that the upper end of the bag didn’t suit my eye and swing, but there is no reason why they wouldn’t suit a golfer being introduced to the game.

When we first got our hands on the McGregor CG300 set, we were immediately impressed by the design. These clubs look great. They look like a premium set with a modern design and feel. They are also weighted very well for beginners. I very much enjoyed the flat trajectory the FX fairway wood produced; at my ball speed, it’s no issue, but other golfers may need to loft up to the 18-degree head to get optimal launch conditions. Even if you have been playing the game for a while and want a set that can help you improve, it’s very important to insist on certain features. This is another great set for beginners as it features a collection of very forgiving and user-friendly irons. The set includes a 460cc driver, fairway wood, hybrid, irons 6-SW and a putter. Pros:

As we touched on in the previous section, the McGregor CG300 comes with either graphite or stainless steel shafts. Offset is a higher handicapper's friend though so golfers will enjoy how user-friendly these clubs are. Despite the average feel, performance was fine with the fairway and hybrid.

The 460cc driver is set to 13 degrees of loft. The perimeter weighting of the club effectively broadens the sweet spot. A hybrid will flatten the learning curve significantly when you are trying to master your long irons and fairway woods. I didn’t hit any shots with the 5-wood on the Flightscope, but it’s worth noting that I am really pleased they have included a fairway and that is a 5-wood, not a 3-wood. The extra loft and slightly shorter shaft make it that much more usable for beginners as a 3-wood is often just too difficult to hit.I started the testing session with some full shots, and really liked the low flight the Tour Grind wedge produced. I don’t like to see the ball get too high as it feels out of control, but that wasn’t an issue at all as they launched pretty low with loads of spin. Distance isn’t an important measurable with wedges but they went exactly the same distance as the Vokeys I currently play.
