A new voice control algorithm makes it easier to control the X3 when your camera is mounted out of reach. Looking to shoot first-person videos without reframing? Insta360 X3

Upgraded single lens mode allows shooting in 170 degree 4K at 30fps without framing and instant share to social media. The X3 has given Insta360 a new 1/2-inch sensor that has a higher resolution than its predecessor. This promises better detail reproduction. In 360-degree photo mode, the camera now has 11968 x 5984 pixels, i.e. a total of 72 megapixels. In 360-degree video mode, the maximum resolution is 5.7K (5760 x 2880) at 30 frames per second. Alternatively, you can record with a lens as with classic action cams. Then the camera films in 4K at 30 fps. If you use the extra-wide MaxView panoramic field of view with a picture angle of 170°, the maximum resolution is 2.7K. New Me mode, Effective Image Stabilisation

After testing, phones equipped with Qualcomm SDM765 5G chips have poor hardware decoding capabilities and are not supported for use, such as OPPO Reno 3 5G. No matter the action, get smooth video with X3’s best-in-class action cam image stabilization. Rotate X3 in any direction and watch the horizon stay level. You can export at up to 1440p if you edit your 360 video using the My Story editing tool in the app, but if all you want is to reframe one clip and export it, you’re still restricted to 1080p, which is bizarre and very confusing.

Additional Function Keys and More Powerful Battery

Next generation version of the world's best-selling 360 degree Action Camera with larger sensor, increased camera pixels, bigger battery, larger screen, faster Wi-Fi and voice control. What the new sensors do offer, however, is a more flexible experience for users. You can now shoot much higher-resolution 72MP 360 photos. Single lens recordings now go up to 4K at 30fps where before they were limited to 2,560 x 1,440, and Insta360’s slow-motion Bullet Time mode can now be captured at 4K resolution at up to 120fps or 3K at 180fps. An innovative new HDR video mode for action sports. Active HDR keeps your video stabilized as you move, while keeping details in the highlights and shadows for more vibrant footage. The Insta360 X3 is a very good 360 camera, too; far better, in fact, than its predecessor. The headline is that it has larger, higher-resolution 48MP sensors behind each of the camera’s fisheye lenses. These allow the camera to capture higher-quality single lens 4K video footage, higher-resolution 72-megapixel photos and 8K timelapse videos – although the maximum resolution for 360 videos remains the same at 5.7K and 30fps.

Don’t expect a huge leap forward in underlying quality, though. I took a close look at the same clips shot side by side on the two cameras, in 5.7K 360 mode at 30fps, and couldn’t decide on which I liked more. There’s certainly not a night and day difference, in good light or poor, although I did spot slightly lower levels of chromatic aberration on the X3 clips. Android devices with Exynos 9810 and above chips, including Samsung Galaxy S9, S9+, Note9 and newer models. Devices that do not meet the above requirements may still be able to use the app to control the camera, however, performance of some processor-intensive and AI-powered features may be sub-optimal.However, if you’re looking to buy your first 360-degree action camera, the Insta360 X3 is certainly the camera you want to buy. Its large touchscreen makes it super easy to operate on the hoof, its extra modes offer more flexibility than its predecessor and its Loop Recording mode means you can now use it as an advanced, albeit expensive, helmet camera. Android devices with Snapdragon 845 and above chips, including Samsung Galaxy S9, Xiaomi Mi 8 or newer models. Creators, adventurers and athletes can now make fun and viral-worthy content with ease, helping you capture content not possible with a smartphone or a traditional camera. This doesn’t extend run time much but it keeps it roughly the same and, given the larger display, that’s all you need. The Insta360 X3 can record 81 minutes of 5.7K 360 footage in one charge, where the X2 was rated at 80 minutes.

faster Wi-Fi transfers compared to the X2. Transfer and edit your files faster in the Insta360 app. Looking to upgrade your equipment? Easy AI-powered reframing tools in the Insta360 app make it easy to find the perfect angle, so you’ll never miss a shot again. One thing to note about processing your videos via the Insta360 smartphone app is that it’s still not possible to export a reframed video clip in 4K resolution, despite the fact that this is the resolution Insta360 recommends for the best possible quality when exporting to YouTube.App installation requires a mobile phone with a 64-bit system. A 32-bit system does not support app installation.
