Wow! I read this book in one day! It was a compelling & gripping novel of courage, love, hatred, values and “staying human” with monsters and destruction around! This is more than just about Hannie though - we are also treated to other strong and fearless women who alongside Hannie worked to make the persecuted under the Nazi regime feel a little bit safer. Their strength and humanity was something to be celebrated and I loved getting to know Truus and Freddie, Philine and Sonja too.

So, if you are a fan of Historical Fiction then this is a must read or if you want to understand more about the Dutch Resistance and Hannie in particular, then this is your book as the author does a fine job. It's quite heavy-going, which for a book set in WW2 shouldn't really be a surprise, but it's clear that Buzzy has a respect for her subject choice, because nothing is there just for the sake of it or for entertainment purposes. I know a fiction book at its very heart is a piece of entertainment, so I appreciate that, but there is so much tenderness and respect here that it is just pitch perfect.
