About this deal

Why it made the cut: NEWSEE’s Northern Lights Star Projector lets you take the magic of the stars with you everywhere. There is one rotation speed which is slow and soothing — there's a little bit of noise from the motor but nothing that would be distracting, and better than many models we've tested. This is a great quality star projector for any space fan. We were dubious how good this star projector would be, as historically, novelty-shaped star projectors are pretty disappointing. We're pleased to say that during our Astronaut Starry Sky Projector review, this 'cute' projector meets space-themed ornament surpassed our expectations.

Laser projectors are more expensive, but they make up for it in brightness. These projectors are perfect for projecting crystal clear images of nebulas and galaxies onto your walls. If you want to light up an entire room with stars, this is the way.

NEWSEE’s Northern Lights Star Projector is the only model we’re recommending that can be taken anywhere. The battery-powered projector can run for a couple of hours before needing to be recharged—though because it has a USB-C port, you can plug it into a portable charger to extend its life. The projector sits on a stand and can be rotated so that you can find the best angle for your room. This flexibility comes in handy because you may be using the projector in multiple rooms because of its portability. Its brightness can also be adjusted (via its remote control) from as low as 30% all the way up to 100%. Users will have 43 different light effects to choose from, along with three main displays: the moon, the moon + Ripples, and the Moon + ripples + stars. These cool gadgets went viral on social media not too long ago, transforming bedrooms of both children and adults alike into beautiful galaxies, complete with stars, colors, constellations and more. The downside of the Pococo design is that you only have 30 degrees of movement to shine the lights, although as you'll typically be shining this at the ceiling, this isn't a deal breaker.

Using a patented photographic process similar to microfiche, the Homestar Flux uses analog removable discs with very high resolution, simultaneously showing as many as a million distinct stars. The product was designed in conjunction with Japanese astronomer/engineer Takayuki Ohira(TED Talk), the inventor of the Megastar, a professional laser-based planetarium projector that can show the most stars in the world. Sega (via its Sivesco subsidiary) has been in the home planetarium business since 2006. There are also third parties that also make discs for the unit besides Sega, such as Miller Engineering. In comparison to the Atmosphere Smart Galaxy Projector, the Ambience Galaxy & Star Projector has fewer lighting modes available, but it doesn't suffer from it. It offers four colors: blue, green, white and red, and users can blend these colors together using the supplied remote control and adjust the brightness to their specific preference. Although small and discreet, this USB-powered projector has the capability to turn any room into a celestial wonderland. When connected to a USB power source, it projects hundreds of laser stars, providing a truly immersive and atmospheric experience. Whether you're a gamer aiming to elevate your gaming space, a parent wanting to create a magical bedtime atmosphere for your child (ensuring they don't look directly into the beam) or just someone who enjoys the beauty of the cosmos on a dark and dreary night, this star projector is sure to bring joy. The Pococo Galaxy Star Projector is a worthy addition to this guide, and it is a good rival to the National Geographic Astro Planetarium and the much more expensive Sega Homestar Flux. During our full Pococo Galaxy star projector review, we found it a good value star projector with decent build and projection quality. As discussed in our Bresser Junior Astro-Planetarium Deluxe review, this star projector draws many parallels to the Bresser-made National Geographic Astro Planetarium but doesn't include an integrated FM radio or the ability to attach an audio device. The Bresser Junior can only be powered by 3 x AA batteries, so buyers will likely need to grab some spares if they plan on using it long-term. Smooth focus dial allowing for projection distances of as small as 120 cm to 290 cm (3'11" to 9'5") Everyone who walked in on us reviewing this star projector has called 'him' cute. He's now known as 'the little guy,' and it's adults we're talking about here. It does have an endearing presence. The image can be rotated in its stand and has 360-degree mobility with built-in motors. It performs best when projected from a distance of around two meters. The lens, made by Bresser, features a focusing wheel for simple image adjustment. Like many star projectors, it offers automatic shutdown options after 30, 60 or 120 minutes, making it great for kids who want to fall asleep under a starry sky in their bedroom. Additionally, it includes a 'shooting star' mode, projecting a 'meteor' every 40 seconds.

Encalife Ambience Galaxy & Star Projector:A neat combination of a star projector and Bluetooth speaker built into one. It isn't scientifically accurate but it displays vivid nebula-inspired patterns to enhance the ambience in any room. ★★★½ The Sky Lite 2.0 is best compared to the likes of a lava lamp in terms of what it tries to achieve. If you're after a hypnotic journey through an imaginary nebula (or aurora?) — this star projector delivers. The hardware is simple and straightforward. It includes a small lamp that runs on 4 x AA batteries (not included) and a square base. The assembled night sky dome, positioned over the lamp, has support fixed at each of its four corners. Once the lights are off, the stars on the globe light up, casting their projections onto the walls and ceiling. Unlike some other models, we found it to be near silent in its operation, which is great if you're using it to get to sleep or whilst watching a film. The Sega Toys Homestar Flux stands out as a compact and stylish star projector, known for its power and sleek design. While it comes with a higher price tag, it delivers a lot in return. The lights and lasers shine from the astronaut's space helmet. The astronaut's head attaches to the body with a pretty strong magnet. We like that it can be connected in almost any position. The head can't be lifted off with one hand, and it stays attached when you turn it upside down, making it feel strong and sturdy. You can also pose the little arms vertically into the position you want. The colors of the lights and lasers are vivid, and the dedicated app still affords you many customization options in terms of color mix, speed, timing modes, brightness and so on. Be mindful that the app is connected over Bluetooth and not Wi-Fi, so you have to be pretty near it to make any changes to the settings — if you're looking to control it remotely from a different room (e.g if it's in a child's bedroom and you don't want to disturb them), you'd probably want to consider something that is connected by Wi-Fi. While the terms are often used interchangeably, star projectors can also be used to refer to unrealistic night and ambient or mood-enhancing lights that aren't scientifically accurate. Planetariums on the other hand are strictly realistic and accurate depictions of the night sky, which are sometimes even time and location-sensitive to show you the night sky as it appears at a given time. How do I choose a star projector? Aurora Borealis Northern Lights Star ProjectorIt's highly customizable, the patterns are realistic and the music rhythm mode is impressive. This is one of our favorites. ★★★★½

Laser-simulated star projector: This uses a bright green laser diode with a diffracting mirror to split the light into thousands of smaller beams to create a rotating simulated star field. You’ll likely come across the terms still display and rotating display when shopping for a night projector. Both terms refer to whether the images move or remain still. A projector with a rotating display will move the images across the room and bounce them across the ceiling and walls. Those that have a still image project the display in one specific area, which can include one wall or the ceiling. You may find it helpful to look for one that includes both modes. Display Type It also includes an auto-off timer which you set at 1, 2, and 4-hour increments, after which the device will automatically power down. It’s a great option to have, especially when you’re looking for a way to entertain your kids until they go to sleep.

When shopping for a model that comes with a rechargeable battery, you’ll want to see how long it will last. A good light projector should run for up to 10 hours. This allows you to sleep through the night without the battery running out. Some batteries can last for 12 to 14 hours between charges, which lets you use the projector several nights in a row without charging it every day. Timer Settings
