Description

This part of Idaho is nothing if not scenic, and the easiest way to see it is by taking a scenic drive near Driggs. The Teton Scenic Byway starts right by Fall Creek Falls in the tiny town of Swan Valley, and runs for 70 miles through Victor, Driggs, Tetonia, and up to the town of Ashton, ID.

This walk explores the wild Cumbrian coast and the ancient Roman port of Ravenglass, using the train to return so you’ll have plenty of time to relax among the sand dunes of Drigg’s remote foreshore. There are plenty of access points, so you can easily plan a float yourself if you have two vehicles. If not, the Teton River Shuttle will move your car from your start point to your endpoint while you’re out on the water (how handy is that?).Teton Teepee Lodge – Alta, WY: An incredibly unique lodge, with rooms situated around a fire pit in the center of the common area Snowshoeing is another great way to enjoy Driggs in winter. You can snowshoe out on many of the area’s hiking trails, and most (but not all) of the cross-country ski trails allow snowshoeing as well. The hike from the Teton Canyon trailhead to Table Mountain is a tough journey but offers some of the best views of the Teton Range you’ll find anywhere. Covering 13 miles and over 4,000 feet of elevation gain, this hike is not for the faint of heart. Another of the top hikes near Driggs is the Palisades Creek Trail, beginning about 50 minutes south of town at Palisades Creek Trailhead. The first section of the trail is a moderate 5-mile (one-way) hike to the gorgeous Lower Palisades Lake. If you’re up for continuing another (steeper) 2.5 miles, you’ll be rewarded with the even more stunning Upper Palisades Lake.

We love the Teton Valley for a lot of reasons, but primary among them is the fact that there are no hotel chains in either Victor or Driggs. With no massive and out-of-place hotels, the area has been able to maintain its charm despite its explosion in popularity. Below, we listed a few of the places we’ve stayed in the area and really enjoyed. The Teton Valley sits between the Teton Mountains to the east and the Big Hole mountains to the west, meaning that an epic view of the Tetons, similar to that found in the national park, can also be enjoyed from Idaho. If you’re looking for things to do in the Teton Valley that won’t break the bank…well, skip this one. But if you have the means to splurge, a sunrise hot air balloon ride over the Tetons is nothing short of magical. Float the Teton River. Teton Valley Resort – Victor: Sleek and comfortable cabins that sleep up to 6 people, some featuring a kitchenette and fireplace Was the eight miles of the Victor to Driggs Rail Trail not enough? No problem, the nearby Ashton-Tetonia Trail, a gravel/dirt trail following the abandoned Teton Valley Branch of the Union Pacific Railroad, is nearly four times as long!

Start from the railway station at Ravenglass, but leave time to explore the village itself. The main village street is paved with beach cobbles and the low cottages form a protective square almost enclosed from the ravages of the sea. The beach, which is actually an estuary formed by the confluence of the rivers Irt, Mite and Esk, although not sandy, is incredibly scenic. Head down to the railway viaduct; on the west side take a footbridge that leads across the River Mite. Turn left and follow a path to the end of a road at Low Saltcoats. Follow this road for a short distance before taking the first left down a road that leads towards Hall Carleton, where it turns sharp right and passes under the railway line. While 99% of people who visit the Grand Tetons enter from the national park, which is located on the eastern side of the mountains, you can also access the mountains from the west, just outside of Driggs and Victor.

If you’re into the outdoors, browsing through Victor Outdoor Seconds is definitely one of the top things to do in Victor. Yes, this consignment shop is a little disorganized, but it’s also the kind of place where you’ll find hidden gems. The small downtown area of Victor is also well worth taking some time to meander around. Don’t miss Estate Collectibles if you’re into antiquing, or Food Shed Idaho if you love gourmet food. And be sure to stop in 2 nd ACT Thrift Store, a neat secondhand store that supports a local arts and theatre non-profit. Browse at Victor Outdoor Seconds. If you’re spending some time in Driggs and Victor, of course you’ll want some places to eat as well! In the list below, we’ve listed all of our favorite places to eat in Driggs and Victor. Driggs and Victor, just eight miles apart, are the two main towns in Idaho’s Teton Valley. Each one only has around 2,200 people, but there’s still lots to do, so make sure you spend some time in both! Wander downtown Driggs.

New Walks Leaflet: Ditchling Beacon and Devil’s Dyke

This linear walk starts from Ravenglass station and finishes on Drigg beach via easy lanes and footpaths to sand dunes and sandy beach at low tide. (Some shingle at high tide). Use the train at Drigg for the return leg to Ravenglass. Teton Springs Lodge| A bit more of an upscale option, Teton Springs Resort is perfect for those looking for something a bit quieter and more luxurious, while still maintaining the area’s rustic feel.
