Since Buddy first began there have been 27 actors playing the title role of Buddy in the West End, on tour and on Broadway Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story is a musical in two acts written by Alan Janes, and featuring the music of Buddy Holly. It opened at London's Victoria Palace Theatre on 12 October 1989. An early example of the jukebox musical, Buddy ran in London's West End for over 12 years, playing 5,140 performances. Janes took over the producing of the show himself in 2004, and Buddy has been on tour extensively in the UK since then, having played Broadway, five U.S. National Tours and numerous other productions around the world. The show was nominated for an Olivier Award for Best Musical.The staging will once again boast giant screens in front of the 5,000 seat arena layout, with a 70 foot wide stage. Some scenes will take place above and around the audience. To learn where he really comes from, Buddy heads to New York to reunite with his birth father. But Buddy's never ventured outside of the North Pole before. How will he behave? What happens in New York? How do you get around? While in New York, Buddy learns a great deal about himself and the wider world. And with Santa crashing in Central Park, can Buddy the Elf share the Christmas spirit? Buddy ran in the West End for over 14 years – playing the Victoria Palace, Novello, and DuchessTheatres – making it one of the longest-running shows in London theatre history!

Buddy has been staged in more than 17 countries, including Australia, Austria, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Finland, Iceland, Ireland, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, UK and USA.
