About this deal

I must admit that at forty years old, I'd begun to despair of ever finding the perfect woman. But as soon as I saw Grace, I knew she was the one I'd been waiting for.' However, the storytelling, the one-dimensional characters and the implausibility let it down and it became a struggle to finish. Captivated - absolutely not. Behind Closed Doors is a chilling and atmospheric psychological thriller. I have read a few books recently about marriages that are not all they same and when this theme is done well (as this book does) it's absolutely breathtaking and scary. Disturbed is what you will feel with much of this book, don't be surprised if your mouth pops open (watch out for fruit flies at that point). Hope comes in the form of Carolyn Blakely who finds Amelie in her now homeless stage. Carolyn invites Amelie to be her housekeeper after Carolyn's husband left her. Coincidences will line this novel like wallpaper. Amelie will soon become friends with Carolyn's friends who are all in their 30's and work at the exclusive magazine, Exclusives.

With the unfortunate passing of her father, Amelie becomes a poor orphan. In search of a new life, she moves to London from Paris, where she meets a group of wealthy friends/employers who embrace her friendship and take her under their wings. In the present, Amelie and her wealthy husband Ned have been kidnapped and held for ransom. Admittedly, I don’t enjoy captivity stories. Plot line is unique: a young woman married with a billionaire is kidnapped with her husband but being prisoner in a dark room is far better than her imprisonment of marriage!

What to Read Next

I have been wanting to read Behind Closed Doors for quite some time. When it was available on NetGalley I requested it right away but unfortunately was denied. I think that just made me want it more! Characters flit from place to place to serve the plot. Conversational exchanges happen that would NEVER happen in real life. Though the chapters are short and I was still able to blow through this in a few days, it was somewhat of a torturous experience. I kept wanting there to be emotional depth, surprising reveals, ANYTHING to make it make sense and make it seem like the plot was truly going somewhere interesting... but that never happened. Soon she is moving up in the world and it's through a new job that she meets Ned Hawthorpe, a business man, technically her new boss and the heir to a vast fortune. This author’s writing is so simple and straightforward, but her storytelling is potent, as is her ability to construct a tension-filled plot. This debut is guaranteed to haunt you... Warning: brace yourself.” — Bustle (10 New Thrillers to Read This Summer)

Overall none of the characters are not developed 'enough' – – they are too one -dimensional. We begin to get 'told' what was happening - rather than get a full experience/ .......a showing, an authentic unfolding of the story. Life is perfect for Amelie...right? Far from it!! In the present, we find out that she's in fact being held prisoner by someone. In a tiny, dank, dark room by herself, in complete isolation being fed only two meals daily by a masked man. Who could she possibly have upset enough to deserve being held in captivity, as a prisoner for days, weeks, and possibly even months?? And when will she get any time to herself and an opportunity to even do anything remotely like changing her life situation. B.A. Paris has always been a favorite. I'm a card-carrying fan from the beginning. But The Prisoner just didn't rise to the occasion for me. Let me explain:

Need Help?

I enjoyed the short chapters that helped move the book along at a nice pace. The two timelines were also enjoyable and kept me invested. The book started strong and instantly grabbed my attention and had me wanting to know more. It was obvious from the beginning, that her husband was not the nicest of fellows, and I wanted to know more of his motivation and why both were taken. Holy moly what a ride!! I HAD to find out what happened, so seriously, I stayed in bed until NOON, with no thoughts of family, friends, or world chaos. Dry eye made the words blurry, but who cares? And food? Is that really necessary? My only necessity was finding out how this story turned out, to get me out of the claustrophobic terror created by a holy-shit psychopath. It was some tense! It took me just an afternoon to read this book and by the end, my heart was pounding. If you like fast and frantic stories, you'll love this." — The Sun We have a lot of paintings on the walls of our sitting room but people are usually drawn towards the large red canvas that hangs above the fireplace. Diane and Adam, who have already seen it, can't help going over to have another look, and Rufus joins them, while Esther sits down on one of the cream leather sofas.

If you are an Author and you’d like me to consider reading and reviewing your book please just message me. Behind Closed Doors" was a thrilling read with many twists and turns that left me reeling. A thoroughly engrossing novel that I won't soon forget. The book introduces themes that it doesn't handle well and the ending felt abrupt. Overall, it's a very flat read and the emotional depth is non-existent. Wild Bunch Germany, producers Scott Steindorff and Dylan Russell of Stone Village Productions and prolific stage producer Scott Delman of Shadowfox Productions are making the adaptation based on the story of a perfect marriage gone wrong. The tale follows a woman whose dream husband suddenly becomes her worst nightmare immediately following their wedding day. this is nothing like Gone Girl. it's nothing like The Girl on the Train. i'm not even sure this can be classified as psychological suspense, really. this is a straight-up thriller. and there ain't a thing in the world wrong with that, except when people like women's health start getting a little loosey goosey with their suggestions and ruining the reputation of readers' advisory for everybody.

A hair-raising debut, both unsettling and addictive...A chilling thriller that will keep you reading long into the night.”—Mary Kubica, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of The Good Girl The beginning portion of the book (with Amelie's imprisonment) was supposedly the more fast-paced and interesting part of the story... but I found it mind-numbing and once some reveals occurred, beyond silly. It reminded me of the sort of over-the-top dramatics you see in a bad action movie revolving around a hostage situation, and those are certainly not my cup of tea. The second part of the book was EVEN LONGER and didn't lead me to any sort of interesting takeaway. Amelie is a bit of a naive MC on top of everything else, so not only was it hard to feel sorry for her, but frankly they probably should have just left her in the room from part one. I'm sure she would have figured out what was going on....eventually. 🙃

The story ends exactly like I expected and I liked that. In spite of that, I have to say the ending felt a little rushed. Everything was somehow too neat IMO. I would have liked to know more about some aspects in these characters’ lives and also the story to be longer. Also, IMO would have been better with more psychological elements…I know, I know…I’m greedy, but it's what I would have preferred. At the end: all the pieces of puzzle were positioned at the right places. The questions were mostly answered. Some of the answers were a little far fetched but they are still satisfying enough. Amelie Lamont is a young soul wrapped in responsibilities. She's been burdened with the care of her alcoholic father who is dying of cancer. Her mother passed away when Amelie was a child. After her father's death, Amelie leaves Paris and heads for London. At sixteen, she doesn't have many options. It is her hope to earn enough money to continue her education. With no money and no desire to go into the state system, Amelie disappeared to London, where she set about making a life for herself. This is not an upsetting brutal man in the full sense of the word as in beatings, so don't be mislead that this may turn your stomach, because it won't.I may have said it before about other books but this really took hold of me. I was constantly thinking about it or talking about it. One of my best friends and my mom let me go on and on as I got further into the book. Neither of them were going to read the book but they ended up being quite interested in the story once I started telling them about it. My mom would even phone to ask me what had happened next. Making her smash debut, Paris [keeps] the suspense level high. In the same vein as Gone Girl or Girl on the Train, this is a can’t-put-down psychological thriller.”— Library Journal (starred review) Many thanks to NetGalley, St. Martin's Press, and B.A. Paris for an ARC of this book! Now available as of 11.1!** He has looks and wealth, she has charm and elegance. You might not want to like them, but you do. Though, you’d like to get to know Grace better.
