Hi. Funny you should mention HI. I had a test last year and didn't have it but recently, I've been having the same doubts - reacting to typically high histamine foods. I've arranged another faeces test whilst I'm waiting to hear how I can arrange a DAO/histamine blood/serum test. I'm not 100% convinced the faeces test is reliable but it's something I can arrange without a referral. I know of a lab who does the blood test and I trust them but I'm waiting to hear if I need a referral and how much it would cost. Another blood test may also be carried out after approximately 8 weeks to confirm your treatment has been successful. If you're a vegetarian or vegan, or are looking for alternatives to meat and dairy products, there are foods that are fortified with vitamin B12, such as some yeast extracts, breakfast cereals and soy products. The symptom it’s most famous for is fatigue, but Vitamin B12 deficiency symptoms can also manifest in many other ways:

If you forget to take cyanocobalamin tablets, take your usual dose as soon as you remember, unless it’s nearly time for your next dose. In this case just leave out the missed dose and take your next one as normal. swelling (inflammation) in your intestines because of conditions like Crohn’s disease and coeliac disease I now only use the Patch Aid B12 patches and I can tell if I’ve forgotten to put one on (ahem, not that I ever do…). The cogs in my brain start to slow, I’m reaching for vocabulary, forgetting why I’m doing something, etc etc. And then it dawns on me – I haven’t got my patch on! Dietary sources of Vitamin B12: Archives of Internal Medicine: “Folic Acid, Vitamin B6, and Vitamin B12 in Combination and Age-related Macular Degeneration in a Randomized Trial of Women.” I eventually got fed up of stabbing myself though. I knew orals weren’t much cop as B12 is water-soluble and can’t be stored by the body. So a dose that’s supposed to last a whole day, swallowed in the morning… most of it is excreted (hence the fluorescent urine you get while taking oral B12). B12 patches fix this issue as they slowly release into the bloodstream over 8 hours. Losenges are also a great alternative to pills. They work because the nutrients are absorbed under the tongue and enter the bloodstream directly without having to go through the gastrointestinal tract. B12 absorption problems. If a vitamin B12 deficiency is not detected and treated, it could affect your nervous system. Monitoring your condition

Symptoms of B12 deficiency, which can develop over years, may include fatigue, pale skin, numb or tingly hands or feet, and confusion. Left untreated, too little vitamin B12 can ultimately lead to nerve damage, ataxia (difficulty with walking and balance), pernicious anemia, heart failure, and even gastric cancer, Swenor says. I was impressed to know that I was in good company, apparently chess Grand Masters inject with B12 in the run-up to matches. Although at the time, snap was about my cognitive limit. (If anyone knows a chess Grand Master we’d love to send them some B12 patches to try!) Your doctor may want to increase or decrease your dose of cyanocobalamin tablets depending on the level of vitamin B12 in your blood. What if I forget to take it?If a problem exists, we try to tweak the diet,” says Wright, who is also chair of the department of nutrition and dietetics at the University of North Florida. If that's not enough, you may need a supplement. Initially, the dose may be as high as 500 mcg. That is lowered to a maintenance dose of 100-200 mcg, Wright adds. If a person doesn't have enough intrinsic factor, you may need an injection of vitamin B12. Of course, stress and poor sleep could be behind this (and indeed any sudden HI) - I have a very stressful job and Covid19 terror is not bringing calm to anyone's mental environment!

Most cases of vitamin B12 and folate deficiency can be easily treated with injections or tablets to replace the missing vitamins. Vitamin B12 deficiency anaemia is usually treated with injections of vitamin B12, called hydroxocobalamin.

7. Cautions with other medicines

Vitamin B12 and folate perform several important functions in the body, including keeping the nervous system healthy. Although it's uncommon, vitamin B12 or folate deficiency (with or without anaemia) can lead to complications, particularly if you have been deficient in vitamin B12 or folate for some time. Most healthy adults only need a small amount of B12 -- 2.4 micrograms (mcg). B12 is plentiful in animal products like meat and fish, milk and other dairy products, eggs and, clams, which have a huge amount of B12. Some breakfast cereals, breads, and grains are also fortified with B12.
