As you make your way around the board, you’ll journey through the Candy Kingdom, the City of Thieves, and travel to alternate dimensions like the demonic wasteland of the Nightosphere or even Lumpy Space! The cage that The Ice King imprisoned Lumpy Space Princess in at the final dungeon was similar to the one Finn was being held captive in " Storytelling." The trading quest in the game is a reference to The Legend of Zelda in which the player acquires an item, often by helping out another character. The item can then be traded to someone else who desires it, who then gives the player a new item to trade, and so on. Near the end of the game, LSP threatens to destroy a large reactor found in Lumpy Space. According to Princess Bubblegum, the reactor supposedly played a major role in the Mushroom War and has the capability to obliterate Ooo as well as the entire planet if the reactor is ever destroyed. The reactor is never actually seen in the game. When Finn takes his hat off, if the player could see clearly, his hair seems to be the same length as in " Beautopia."

Before the battle against Marceline in the third dungeon, the Ice King cuts his conversation with Finn short by saying, "but enough talk, have at you!" After he leaves, if the Garbage Princess is examined, Jake will remark that the princess is "a miserable little pile of trash." These lines, and the fact that the next boss is Marceline (a vampire), very strongly seems to be a nod to Castlevania: Symphony of the Night's opening scene where Richter Belmont confronts Dracula. If you leave Finn stationary for a while, he will either take off his hat or Jake will cover his eyes. Marceline and Lady Rainicorn are featured on the box, the board, and the game's money. However, they are not actually useable tokens. BMO is also featured on the board and the box, but is not featured on any of the game's money. Spicy Serum(Shoot fireballs + increase speed) (can be combined from a food and condiment; appeared in " Too Young") At the end of the credits, what looks like Finn and Jake confronting the Ice King turns into a gender-swapped version, including Fionna, Cake, and the Ice Queen.Anti-Mind Control Gem: (Prevents enemy encounters from spawning in the overworld; appeared in " Mortal Folly") The money for the game features a phrase said by the character featured on the money. For example, the 50 Ooo Dollar bill says "Drama Bomb!" as it has Lumpy Space Princess featured on it. Apparently Lady Rainicorn's quote on her bill (in Korean) translates as, "Try to catch me!" (thanks to @soljam.en on Facebook). Bee (HP: 4): (Temporarily fights at your side [dropped by bees and thought of as taming them] can be obtained by combining Birthday Cake and bug milk, but it causes extreme HP loss)

Finn's jumping style in 2D-based worlds, with legs in a sprint and a fist in the air, is very similar to Mario's jump from the original Super Mario Bros. game. Before you enter the tree dungeon, Jake will say "It's dangerous to go alone." This is a reference to the first game in The Legend of Zelda series: The Legend of Zelda. In the game, Finn's golden sword is named "Scarlet the Golden Sword" though this has not been mentioned in the TV series. The game was mentioned about in the May 2012 Nintendo Power and later detailed the game aspects in the July 2012 edition.

The gameplay is based on the second game in The Legend of Zelda series: " Zelda II: The Adventure of Link." Includes: Board, cards, money, and all that – plus 6 custom Tokens: Ice King’s Crown, Princess Bubblegum, Jake, Finn, Lumpy Space Princess, and Tree Trunks. When the player gets the "Spiral Slice" Ability, the game says that Jake got the Spiral Slice rather than Finn.
