The art style is literally the cutest thing! This is stinking adorable. Getting slight yandere vibes from him, which is a bit concerning, but I do have to say how cute this is else wise. I'm going to live vivaciously through them as I binge the next volumes. (edit to add that I binged six volumes in 2.5 hours. Ooops.) Other than that, the character is really real and that's also the reason why I feel what Hananoi-kun feel and I understand how Hotaru feel. And the art of this author is always nice so nothing to complain. The main interest is actually Hananoi’s (apparently) creepy vibe. His insecurities, despite his cool appearance-they are explained later in the series-are quite understandable and if they lead to uncalled-for behavior toward others they mainly hurt himself. He knows and suffers from it and it’s obviously with the support of Hotaru’s genuine love that he’ll have a chance to open up and let go. On the other hand Hotaru seems to be your average naive blushing teen but she maintains a very refreshingly active and positive attitude that’ll no doubt heal the wounds of poor Hananoi. Anyways, I find this take on the obsessive male lead trope to be really interesting since, in my opinion, it seems to stem from a place of fear (of being alone/without love) rather than a place of possessiveness. Chapter 25 - Getting Ready For Our First School Fair • Chapter 26 - My First Idol • Chapter 27 - Our First Day At The Pool • Chapter 28 - His First Brush with a Condition Called Love

I've read a lot of shojo over the years, and at a certain point they all start blending together. This is one of the few series that I find to be actually memorable and genuinely curious about where it's going. The good point to it is the art is really good, but I just can't get over how stalker-y it is. I've read a TON of shoujo, but this is the only one I've read where I've gotten this kind of bad impression. This even includes the ones where the male protagonist is one of those forceful "bad boys." The cognitive dissonance between how it feels like the author thinks it's sweet and harmless and how Hananoi's behavior is actually creepy just makes "Hananoi-kun to Koi no Yamai" even harder to reconcile and accept, versus those with "bad boy" protagonists, you can fully see where the narrative is going, and so you know ultimately nothing seriously bad is going to happen. The exact date has not been shared but we are thinking that it will be released in spring 2024 as most romance anime tend to release in this season. However, because of these negative points we are able to see just how much Hananoi grows and improves as a person and partner for Hotaru. While it does make the reader worry about the male lead’s mental health and intentions a bit, I think this adds a lot of character growth and development to the story that we don’t always get to see as readers. Our characters have more depth and real personality traits that make them more interesting throughout the story.

The boy is honest, at least, about his intentions. He tells the girl he is "intense" and "crazy." She admits she finds him "tenacious" and "extreme." Suddenly this guy is everywhere she is. He stands outside her house for literal HOURS every morning so he can be sure to walk to her to school. He hovers and eavesdrops when she's with her friends and then records information about her to use later. He stalks her to a family event he was not invited to, and insists she leave with him instead. a b c Cayanan, Joanna (November 8, 2023). "A Condition Called Love Anime Reveals Main Cast, Staff, Spring 2024 Debut". Anime News Network . Retrieved November 8, 2023. F*ing really? You thought it would be EASIEST for someone who is clearly ambivalent about this whole relationship to say the equivalent of "Happy couples holiday! I don't actually dislike you, but I shall dump you now!" Most people don't actually tell someone they think they might possibly like to fluff off on a special day. This is a TRAP.

Chapter 17 - Our First Second Year • Chapter 18 - His First Tears • Chapter 19 - His First Rival • Chapter 20 - Our First Excursion Chocolate of Romance: Valentine's Day rolls around and naturally Hotaru stresses for a bit about what to give Hananoi to properly convey her feelings. When the day of comes and he uncharacteristically keeps putting off their meet-up time, she goes to his place only to find out that he has been preoccupied with trying to make her homemade chocolates, messing up several times in the process and having to start from scratch. They end up staying in and making a chocolate cake together, symbolizing their more equal standing in the relationship.
