The series made the couple a fortune – Martin Miller was nicknamed “the Richard Branson of the antiques world” – and spawned an empire of other standalone Miller guides, to porcelain, silver, Victoriana, and so on. In 1985, this culminated in Chilston Park, a Grade I-listed house in Kent, empty for more than a decade, which he decided to turn into a hotel.
