January - there are important dates for this month followed by a wonderful page of what January represents, it is a time of reflection as the daylight hours are not as long as we would like. The only downside is that this book can be accessed only in the app and can't be sent to your Kindle therefore I won't be able to access this after two months which is disappointing really because book shares information month by month and what to look out for. My favourite recipe is for Pea soup with cheesy mushroom dumplings, and the rhubarb recipe to be found in February. Taking in the sea breeze and feeling the strong rhythm of the sea makes us wonder why we don't do these things more often.

It is littered with black-lined illustrations and images that correspond perfectly to the item they accompany. This I will follow through the year as I always do, and this year especially the fabulous seasonal recipes, folk songs and exactly when to do things in the garden through each Moon quarter of the month. Then I discovered Lia Leendertz and her 'seasonal guide' Almanacs published in Great Britain every year which make it a breeze! The Almanac: A Seasonal Guide to 2023 gives you the tools and inspiration you need to celebrate, mark and appreciate each month of the year in your own particular way. The Almanac was requested by my daughters friend I've browsed through it and I find that there is far more info than most almanacs it's almost a encyclopedia so if you want to know about the person you are courting just look up his/her sun sign there's lots about the zodiac signs, this is the book to have you never know it might lead the way to becoming a Metrogist.

When the zodiac symbol is drawn, it also picks out the shape of the star formation that gives the consolation its name. I found it hard to keep this book for the new year, wanting to read through it before 2022 is even out. I hope you will make this beautifully illustrated and presented book your own and keep it by your side to remind you get close to Nature through 2023. Slightly Foxed brings back forgotten voices through its Slightly Foxed and Plain Foxed Editions, a series of beautifully produced little pocket hardback reissues of classic memoirs, all of them absorbing and highly individual. If you are interested in the natural world and folklore this is an excellent month by month guide to the year.

From best gardening times, celestial events, tidal timetables - it's full of fascinating little tips and insights and I'm already looking forward to opening it at the start of each month. The hard backed version is robust and durable so that it will last a whole year of reading, re-reading and dipping in to. It includes key dates, tide tables and garden tasks; constellations and moon phases; sunrises, folk songs, seasonal recipes plus a ‘bun of the month’; and – because 2023 will be a good year for planet spotting – the solar system and the zodiac. The Almanac: A Seasonal Guide to 2023 gives you the tools and inspiration you need to celebrate, mark and appreciate each month of the year in your own particular way.Facebook sets this cookie to show relevant advertisements to users by tracking user behaviour across the web, on sites that have Facebook pixel or Facebook social plugin. The beautiful illustrations and cover added to my enjoyment, I think I'd like one of these little almanacs every year. Within the pages allotted to said month was so much of interest and practical use, that I would defy anyone not to find something to inform or delight them. A perfect toolkit for connecting with the world around us and the year ahead as it unfolds – all in a compact and pocket size guide that just begs you to pick it up and browse.

You will find yourself referring to The Almanac all year long, revisiting it again and again, and looking forward to the next edition as the year draws to a close. Written in an accessible style with some super smattering of humour in a conversational tone, readers will find recipes and songs, notable dates and traditions, the zodiac and gardens so that there’s everything from the seas to the skies contained here. There are also features on each month's unique nature, with this instalment following the swirling micro world of the garden pond through the year. I only have a PDF of ‘the almanac - a seasonal guide to 2023’ on loan from Netgalley, and it only lasts for a couple of months, so I may splash out for a copy. It will often include ingredients that are freely available in that particular month, which encourages seasonal cooking.

This book is so valuable because it gives the actual dates for significant events in 2023, of holidays, special days and so much more. The Hogarth Press where I’m working, is in the heart of the literary world, with authors coming in all the time. The illustrations by Whooli Chen are beautiful and I couldn’t decide if they would have been even better in colour or whether that would detract from their exquisite subtlety. For a small hardback book this book contains a wealth of information, fascinating facts and interesting, useful information. Lia Leendertz’s The Almanac - A Seasonal Guide to 2023 is an inspiring tool for reconnecting with nature’s cycles in practical ways that propagate soulful results.

Either way, they add a lightness of touch that balances the stark and effective tide tables or phases of the moon. December: “There appears to be something about reaching the deepest depths of the year that inspires us to use up an over-generous proportion of our precious resources in gathering, feasting and celebrating.Mrs Woolf, wife of the manager, is a very celebrated author and, in her own way, more important than Galsworthy.
