For such applications a walking foot (as a minimum) really is needed, and having a compound/triple feed machine is even better.

It is particularly useful for beginners and equally helpful for more experienced sewing enthusiasts who want to double-check before proceeding with a stitch they rarely use. When using these threads threading by hand can be a pain and the needle threader has been a big help.

But you cannot compare them with the kinds of machines that are most common and popular here, for folks who are sewing leather, webbing, complicated and thick assemblies, etc. I honestly love the machine and was so glad I could replace the original with a machine I could just plug in and sew with. It can handle more layers with some hand wheel assistance and I've gone through 10 layers but it absolutely needs some hand assist on that many layers.
