I loved how this story took almost all the batshit things from the previous volumes and turn it up a hundred! Volume four was my favorite so far, so I wasn’t expecting to struggle as much as I did to finish this one.

Hua Cheng rebukes anything negative towards Xie Lian and even comforted him when Xie Lian was questioning his reality. His cultivation path is one of purity, no matter how many butterflies Hua Cheng sets fluttering in his stomach. Maybe if I'd waited until all the volumes were released before starting this, these things wouldn't bother me as much.A new ghost king isn’t anything to Hua Cheng, but if Xie Lian wants to take a walk and see Mount Tonglu, Hua Cheng will be right there with him to make certain every ghost he comes across bows in proper obeisance.

I would recommend this series of books to anyone who has enjoyed The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation.

The romance is shown in glimpses, sidelong looks between the characters, moments of indulgence and generosity, shared smiles, and a red string connecting their fingers — something Xie Lian certainly can’t miss, even if he’s trying very, very hard to. I could feel the waves of anxiety rolling off the chapters of Yin Yu and Quan Yizhen's past and Xie Lian's trauma regarding the human face disease. I would be so bored without all these charachters creating chaos around hulian, and on top of that I also ship them so hard! Yes, we have a couple of cute scenes of them acting as the married couple they unofficially are but, after over a thousand pages of story, I think it’s time for us to see some real steps.

If any of you have read book six, please tell me it gets better because I have bought the next one before reading this one and now I don’t know where to look to find the excitement to pick it up. But, circles within circles, old friends appear and old stories are told, shedding light on fights won and friendships lost. I don't know how I'm gonna make it until the next volume comes out, cause I'm already ready to read the next one!This epic historical fantasy about a prince and the mysterious man by his side is now officially in English, for the very first time! But those who rise, can also fall… and fall he does, cast from the Heavens again and again and banished to the mortal realm. It was packed with excitement and uncovering more side character backstories, which I personally love.
