About this deal

If you or someone you know has ever been addicted to a drug or even a person you’ll feel this like a gut punch.

One of Vulture’s Best Horror Novels of 2022, this terrifying supernatural page-turner will make you think twice about opening doors to the unknown. Erin has spent most of her adult life entwined with Silas, moving from a romantic attachment into a codependent friendship. Missed opportunity for a truly good book if the author had picked a lane but he was swervin all over the place. It’s obvious from the get-go that Silas is one of those people whose orbit you just can’t get out of, even if you want to.

Again, it’s just another unique way of storytelling that I haven’t seen done before in this way which was refreshing. One of Vulture’s Best Horror Novels of 2022 (So Far), this terrifying supernatural page-turner will make you think twice about opening doors to the unknown. If Clay McLeod Chapman’s previous novels hint at his burgeoning talent for horror storytelling, Ghost Eaters sees it fully realized. Either way, I was intrigued by the story and it really threw me for a loop a few times but maybe a few times too many that the story could have gone so many different ways. You can spend an action, which has the concentrate trait, to focus on a creature inside of a solid object.Like, from the synopsis you know Silas is going to kill himself, but that didn’t happen until like 35% in. So I looked at the Ghost Eater archetype which seems interesting but one issue with it is that there are quite limited opponents to use it against. Late in the night, he's awoken by heavy footsteps on the stair, as the narrator's door begins to open. But we also get a great foundation for why Erin is feeling this way over a man who was, by all accounts as seen in this story, kind of a selfish asshole, and the empathy he draws for her in her actions and also, somewhat, for him, makes it all the sadder and therefore all the scarier. Something of uncommon rarity requires special training or comes from a particular culture or part of the world.

Longer version: Erin, in her mid-twenties, is on a date with a “stable, respectable” (albeit boring) type, one of her steps to get her life “on track”, when Silas, her on-again-off-again-ex-boyfriend-current-friend-even-though-they-don’t-talk-much starts blowing up her phone asking her to come spring him from rehab. that black racing clouds were leading on a solid wall of darkness prophetic of violent thunderstorm. The story is written in a unique style as well, in a broken yet cohesive manner that perfectly illustrates the thinking of someone broken apart by loss and addiction. Jim Nelson, author of the Revolution at Sea and the Brethren of the Coast Series"Glorious shades of Joseph Conrad, but with wry humor! A horror story using the old plot about the protagonist staying in a mysterious house at night where he sees mysterious things — not just a werewolf but a ghostly werewolf who recreates his attack on the house’s previous owner — only to discover in the morning, from the locals, that the house hasn’t existed in years.

A council he never attended, even as the thirty mighty Lords of Chaos gathered, he was taking their beastmen chattel from them and slaughtering their witches - He left it to Chaell to speak to them. An unnamed narrator sets out on journey from Mayfair to Glendale, Maine, on foot, but must traverse a dangerous forest on the way.

Unfortunately about at about the halfway mark this one veered towards more of a sci-fi feel than necessarily horror (or at least my kind of horror), what with the mushrooms and everything, and I almost had to force myself to finish this one once it went down that path. And now, EOG brings an expansion on this overlooked archetype, and it even works on Foundry and Pathbuilder. Rife with body horror and hallucinations, some of which may get a bit too trippy for some, the narrative sucks readers into its dark, disorienting world.Ghost Eaters” takes place in Richmond, a city that has been around a LONG time and has had a lot of blood spilled, a large part due to atrocities committed against Indigenous people and Black people. He emotionally details the devastating realities of addiction, while still being able to tell a scary-as-Hell ghost story and I couldn’t get enough.
