About this deal

I am sure many children will enjoy this book, it’s the sort of picture book I would have adored as a child, due to both the lovely story and the beautiful pictures.

New York Times best-selling illustrator Lucy Fleming’s author-illustrator debut is a sweet story about the power of giving to others and celebrating our friends, as well as a reminder that we all have a light within us that is worthy of being shared. But while Ella spends her nights awake helping others, what she truly longs for is to see the sunrise.

Cette entité bienveillante cueille de la lumière, celle des lanternes, celle des étoiles, et la redistribue à ceux qu'elle pourrait réconforter. The fox is the star of the show, rather than beautiful Ella, as she realises she can befriend animals and shine a light on their darker moments - so much so that they now even look out for her too! The story is a simple one but it is so magical and I love how all the forest animals help Ella in such a lovely and magical way.

I love the concept of this story Ella uses her night light to give others Hope and she helps them out with their problems. The narrative, whilst cute and an animal friendship story, was a bit less captivating but still perfect for a festive story or bedtime tale.

By the end of the book she has helped so many creatures and they want to help her so they create a fort for her to stay in so she can see the sunlight. This story is whimsical and is paired with amazing illustrations that really bring Ella and her 'magic' to light. The illustrations were jammed-packed with details that you could miss if you weren't paying close attention to. You guys are such a force for good and I am a passionate supporter of Indie booksellers, so I'm so happy this worked out well (I'd love to know how many books were sold if you have it to hand - it felt like quite a lot! It would be a nice addition to most storytime collections in that it has a repeating verse to encourage participation from attendees.

However, during the night’s reign, Ella flitters and flies ‘ collecting light’, drawn to ‘ everything that [glows] and [glimmers ] in the darkness’.I have even talked the head into a little revamp of the library so that we can display them properly! Her friends come up with a plan and for the first time Ella is able to see the sunrise and still protect her delicate wings.

However, might it be that there is something magical that her new friends, those for whom she cares, could do for Ella? While it also offers a cute side of a moth, I really appreciated the book's uniqueness, and I think the students would like it as well. But Ella’s wings are too delicate for sunlight and she doesn’t think she’ll ever get to see the sun, until her forest friends help her. I rated it 4 stars because I think there are some better books about friendship out there even though this one was sweet. Aiding and befriending Sable the fox and Luna the owl, with whom she spent her nights in play, Ella led a very happy life. She has an honors degree in illustration and has illustrated a number of books, including River Rose and the Magical Christmas, written by singer Kelly Clarkson.
