About this deal

Born in 1940, David Jason spent his early life dodging bombs and bullies, both with impish good timing. In 1989, Jason starred as Ted Simcock in the ITV drama series A Bit of a Do, aired from January to December. Then I was lucky enough to watch all of the Touch of Frost on Netflix, which I now own them as well. I’m delighted that this month I’ve actually found time to read My Life by David Jason, the book chosen by the U3A book group to which I belong. David Jason was already a star when I first heard of him, but which character was most like the man himself.

The majority of pages are undamaged with some creasing or tearing, and pencil underlining of text, but this is minimal. The backdrop to his time in office included the advent of ISIS, surging migration and a rapidly changing EU.

Michael Fenton Stevens again delivers a rich performance, perfectly portraying the author's personality. He has seeped into our consciousness through decades of portraying memorable characters and always comes across as an affable, charming man in interviews.

To begin with there is only the foreword that is given by David himself, the rest falls to some other geezer who just couldn't pull off the comedic timing or heartfelt dialogue. However, it picked up thereafter and was very interesting to hear of David's exploits and antics in between acting and performing. It was read very well, it didn't take long to get into it not being David who read the whole story, but it was so nice to have David Jason read the first part of the book.

All in all, this book was a fantastic read and couldn’t have come at a better time – to hear David talk about Roger Lloyd Pack so warmly goes to prove I was right all along – there is no bigger gentleman than Sir David Jason. Jason's father, Arthur Robert White, was a porter at Billingsgate Fish Market, and his mother, Olwen Jones, was from Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan, Wales, and worked as a charwoman. As is the case with most books of this type we go through childhood (born in 1940 so his main memories begin just after the war) and on to how they ended up becoming famous. He did train as an electrician, but rarely seemed to be out of work as an actor to have to fall back on this alternative career. He has also starred as Captain Skipper, a sea captain, sea dog and Pip's uncle in the animated series Pip Ahoy!I listened to the audiobook, David Jason read the first chapter, but no further, this jarred a little bit and I never really got used to the second narrator. Humphrey Barclay, who recruited Jason to appear in Do Not Adjust Your Set (partly to counter the more highbrow style of Idle, Jones, and Palin), [9] admired his sense of timing. I'm an avid fan of all things David Jason So was delighted when this audiobook came out, initially I was really disappointed that David Jason didn't read the whole book, However Michael Fenton Stevens did a realyl good job at something that must have been difficult to do. For the first time, Andrew Ridgeley - one half of one of the most famous bands in the world - tells the inside story of Wham! He has appeared in countless TV shows, many of which make it into my top telly favourites, and every interview I see with him or read about him makes him seem like a charming, well mannered man.

The book took me much longer than it should have done to read because I kept stopping to look people and shows up. Jason had a happy childhood and adolescence and appears to be an unassuming man who doesn't particularly care for the limelight his profession brings. These include Skullion in Porterhouse Blue (for Channel 4), Sidney "Pop" Larkin in the rural idyll The Darling Buds of May ( Yorkshire Television/ ITV), based on the H. A second volume, Only Fools and Stories: From Del Boy to Granville, Pop Larkin to Frost was published in October 2017.The stories of how close the cast got and the immense loss David felt when members of the cast and crew passed away show just how much this show came to mean to people – whilst the nation took it into their hearts and cherished it, the cast and crew became a family. Smiley and his people are facing a remarkable challenge: a mole - a soviet double agent - who has burrowed his way in and up to the highest level of British Intelligence.
