As part of the promotion for Brian’s forthcoming book Stereoscopy Is Good For You: Life in 3-D, a leading London photography gallery shall run a five-month exhibition, showcasing some of the captivating imagery. But May says of vintage stereoscopy: "With this view, you are getting the correct geometry, so it should be a very immersive experience.

Since the death of lead singer Mercury in 1991, Queen's popularity has continued to grow, and there are more projects related to the band in the pipeline. The variety provides something new and interesting on every page, and it is beautifully bound with an excellent image on the front.

People had a stereoscope and a stack of cards on the parlour table, and when friends came they would look at stereos. The exhibition also comprises stunning artwork from past LSC projects, as well as rare behind-the-scenes images depicting the legendary rock band Queen, captured by stereoscopic photographer, astrophysicist, rockstar, and animal activist, Brian May himself and first presented in his book, Queen in 3-D, which provides close-up glimpses of the band as never before seen. In these pages you will find for the first time the FULL account of the first 30 years of this extraordinary scientific, artistic and social revolution that was started by Charles Wheatstone, Professor of Experimental Philosophy at King’s College London, before the dawn of photography! While getting books signed by Brian May, visitors will also have the opportunity to explore the wonders of the exhibition – “Stereoscopy Is Good For You: Life in 3-D”. The story begins in 1832, when Wheatstone, a true Victorian genius and polymath, discovered why creatures such as humans have two eyes instead of one, and how this enables them instantaneously to perceive their surroundings in depth – a massive evolutionary advantage.

Even long after Queen had scored numerous hits and performed on some of the world's biggest stages, the band's success still amazes May. You’ll step into a mysterious room like a Victorian Emporium and see how the Victorians gasped at the invention of stereoscopic pictures. Brian and the LSC team were delighted by the quality and creativity of the photos they received, capturing the surrounding world in an extraordinary situation, and reflecting the resilience of the human spirit.

SIGFY comes with an OWL Stereoscopic Viewer, designed by Brian, that does the job of transforming the stereoscopic pairs of images into magical in-depth 3-D. The result is an extraordinary outpouring of emotion and creativity featuring Nature, their pets, architecture, people and much more. Yes, we now have the crowdfunded Qoocam, which is a nice stereo stills and movie camera, but it would be nice to have something built into phones.

For the next 5 months, the exhibition will offer visitors the chance to experience 3-D first-hand, using May’s patent OWL viewers, in three areas channeling the new SIGFY book, the Birth of Stereoscopy, and QUEEN in 3-D. Then downstairs is Queen in 3-D, encompassing not just being with Queen on and off the road, but my history with 3-D.

Brian and Denis explore the emergence of stereoscopy and how the photographic medium became a world-wide sensation, whilst sharing fascinating 3-D Victorian images from their extensive archive to compliment the compelling narrative. I've been working quite seriously in the studio putting things together a little bit in the style of the 'Made in Heaven' album. As it turned out, most of the people who submitted work are represented in some way, but of course some people put in irresistible work, so were featured more than once. We collected all this stuff and put it in a book, which will be a testament to the way people coped. Stereoscopy turned out to be a “rollercoaster ride with peaks and periods of total oblivion and neglect”, he added.

He’s publishing a new book and holding an exhibition of pictures that capture the world in incredible and immersive detail.Brian May, creator of the 21st-century incarnation of the London Stereoscopic Company, became an Internet evangelist for 3-D photography during the recent lockdown period, and fired up a whole new community of stereoscopists, all sharing their 3-D pictures on Instagram. The images were of two photographs of the same subject, taken from viewpoints about the same distance apart as human eyes.
