A terrific mystery/thriller with an old woman (ex con make-up artist) and young man (film student from the wrong side of Scotland) teaming up to find out who framed her for murder. CUT is an amazing first novel by Patricia McCormick that offers a glimpse inside the mind of a 15-year-old girl who cuts herself. Somali-born activist Hibo Wardere draws on her traumatic cutting experience to end this cultural practice in the UK. Devastating, empowering and informative, this book brings to life a clash of cultures at the heart of contemporary society and shows how female genital mutilation is a very British problem. You will be liable to settle any import duties or tarriffs levied by your government, but so far we have not had anyone charged anything!

I really don't know how accurate it is from a 'in real life' perspective, but it is a work of fiction, so the author has free reign to create and style her work as she wants, plausible or not. Jerry and Millicent set off on a dramatic and dangerous adventure spanning the European continent in a bid to set the truth free. The subject matter didn't really bother me then I guess, because it's really, really a fascinating book.Millie and Jerry easily score points off each other in conversations meant to establish who has the best trove of trivia about the movie industry.

Along the way Millicent learns to live again and Jerry realises he has something to offer the world. And the action comes thick and fast in the second half of this story, with the slight downside that more and more characters are introduced (thus forcing me to resort to note taking in an attempt to keep up). That it is prevalent in 29 countries globally and how some young girl are dying from haemorrhaging, infection or shock. No characters grew, it was about a recovery center with no recoveries and seemingly barely any good, consistent help for the characters. Having been lured into petty crime by a local hard case, he decided to leave that world behind following a burglary that went badly wrong. Most of the clues point in the direction of the last movie Millicent Spark worked on as a special effects artist, in the days before CGI offered easy (and fake) solutions. She is about to leave the others and go home to do the deed when she sees a photo of a group, including the deceased boyfriend, dated AFTER his death. Chapter one jumps forward in time and we meet Hibo now 24 years old, a mother of one and living in Britain.

She looks down at a younger colleague for complaining about sexual harassment, figuring she was ‘surely old enough to cope with a dirty glance or two. Just like in the graphic novel, Superman is patient with Batman and that's the only reason he loses: his compassion. The epilogue made a reference to the pandemic but seeing as it did not add anything to the story (I don't remember we're told when the story is taking place exactly) it felt a little bit forced. i wanted more of amanda, the cutter with attention problems, i wanted more of sydney and i wanted to know if debbie "graduated" and becca finally realized she had a problem. Her little brother has asthma and it sick a lot, so she doesn't do much with her family, because her mom, dad, and Sam are always busy being careful that Sam is okay. In her memorable debut novel, Patricia McCormick takes the reader on a journey through the geography of a teenager’s troubled mind. She owns the largest Eucalyptus nursery in the UK, offering a range of 65+ different species, most of which are grown from seed and are hardy in UK climates.
