About this deal
It's particularly challenging when you've had so many records, but when I showed Myles what I was thinking, he absolutely loved it and was on board right away.
Considering that these men all have to eat at the end of the day in a market which is becoming increasingly saturated, this move is somewhat justified.
Indeed after listening through a few more times, I became convinced that this would become one of my favorite AB records. The EP features a new studio track, "Last Rites", written, recorded and completed entirely during the COVID-19 lockdown, and six live tracks taken from their American Victorious Sky Tour. Throw Myles Kennedy – at the very least a contender for the classiest vocalist in classic rock – into the mix and the results are hardly likely to be subdued. With Walking on the Sky there is no wonder why the guys picked exactly this one song to name the whole album after. I’m talking about the album oriented rock (AOR) sound of bands like Journey, Autograph, Night Ranger, etc.
This time, the guys tried to reinvent themselves in a whole new spectrum while already bringing to the table sometimes nearly finished songs. Following In The Deep is again brushing along this calming vibe, even though the music itself is nothing close to slow or quiet. But in terms of producing a superior rock record that manages to combine a sense of modernity with being fully briefed on the heritage from which it is formed, Walk The Sky is hard to beat. We challenge ourselves to not repeat ourselves and find new inspiration to add a different layer to what we do. Songs like Indoctrination and The Bitter End keep my brain engaged with their dark tones and unique drum patterns, respectively. The Bitter End', 'Godspeed' and particularly 'Dying Light' competently capture the melancholic, yet somehow uplifting essence of classic AB tracks like 'Watch Over You' and 'In Loving Memory'.
