In this delightful interactive book, filled with vibrant neon artwork, children can help Leon on his journey by counting his steps, sending him to sleep and giving him lots of reassurance when he's feeling down. He spots something over in the corner of the page, and walks very slowly (we count to 10 across the page) to a place where there are bright orange flowers, and, can we guess? Contracts legal reasons forced Neon Leon to change name to Supasoca, now a group, and for several more hits before this band split up. We havwe been receiving our storybook subscription for around 18 months and I can't see us stopping anytime soon. The story's resolution may give them hope that they, too, will find a community and/or group in which they will belong.

Neon Leon left USA 1981 for Holland and to cooperate with the popular artist Herman Brood but the artists drug problems ruined the rehearsals and Neon Leon got tired. Follow along and help Leon find his way and learn to fit in as you read Britta Teckentrup’s Neon Leon.I am frankly surprised this was even published; to devise a character from what is an animal that can fit in wherever it goes to then define Leon by his skin tone, and then on top of that to suggest that he is disliked by all those who are not the same is appalling. Because he cannot change the color of his skin to fit in with his surroundings like the rest of the chameleons can. Leon the chameleon doesn’t fit in with the other chameleons because he cannot change his neon orange color.

Eventually, he is able to find orange plants on which he is camouflaged, and he even meets another orange chameleon. This book would be a very fun read-aloud for a class, and it would also be good for teaching about chameleons, the societal hardships of feeling like you don’t belong, or even simple counting for very young readers. In 1995 had he a number one hit in Denmark with a reggae version of the Danish artist Kim Larsens classic song "This Is My Life".
