This book covers the numbers 1 - 10 and also geography as Granny rides a magic carpet (from Istanbul) to different markets around the world. It is perfect for counting along with your children and the images in the book make it more fun as you scavenger to count each item. This book teaches us a lot about cultural objects from around the world, it also uses a rhythm of counting to show the journey throughout the book. The majority of pages are undamaged with some creasing or tearing, and pencil underlining of text, but this is minimal. I enjoyed reading this book because in some of the cultures I did not realize one of their customs and normalities. Reading this book, I actually learned about different cultures and things that went along with them.The illustrations reveal traditional dress and environments including Australia and Switzerland… An entertaining story, while revealing a captivating illustration on each page of the very finest quality. While this book is to help with counting each page is represented by a certain place around the world. It reinforces numeracy skills whilst teaching young children about different countries around the world. This is a fun way of showing the reader what different cultures and places look like around the world, along with learning to count!

Granny went to Market is a fun book about a Granny flying around the world purchasing different items. From half a pawpaw to five jew-plums through to ten bananas, this girl’s love of Caribbean fruits is so infectious that you can almost taste the juice dribbling down your chin. I like that some cultural elements are explained- for example, the names of the cats Granny gets in Thailand, Puyin and Puchai, are the Thai words for "little girl" and "little boy". The obvious one being Geography-using a world map and pinning all the places that Granny has visited;children can learn about the different cultures around the world.
