About this deal

Plagued by COVID delays - it started production just before Illumination closed its doors during the Pandemic - and pushed back two years, it's hardly what might be regarded as 'worth the wait', but it is a more than worthy follow-up to the last Minions outing nonetheless, which is a pleasant surprise considering how much of a waste that prequel was. Minions: The Rise of Gru is the kind of title that inadvertently demonstrates the way that the Despicable Me franchise has evolved over the years. The first film was a sizable hit in 2010, and that guaranteed that there will be a string of follow-ups for as long as the box office keeps holding out. At the height of the 70s, a young 11-year-old Gru is already aspiring to be the world's greatest supervillain, and already building his first evil lair, with the help of his bumbling - but numerous - helpers, the Minions. For its presentation in Ultra HD Minions: The Rise of Gru is rendered from a 2K DI and up-converted to 4K.

The Atmos track is almost spot on perfect, with a wildly kinetic sound stage that just brims with enthusiasm and explosive sound design.Minions and Monsters is a riff on Dungeons and Dragons, proving once and for all that Bards are indeed essential party members. With Despicable Me 3 we are once again treated to a charming family adventure that strives to touch us as well as make us laugh. The extras aren’t extensive, but there are still some pleasant surprises to be had among them, and the video/audio quality is excellent, even if it falls just a bit short of reference level.

Yeah, this one is fun, providing the same topical humor, adventure and freshness that provides excellent replay value for both kids and their parents. Still, it’s the music that’s the real star of the show here, with the score by Heitor Pereira intertwining with the various songs to energize the whole track. The Rise of Gru features a young Gru (Steve Carrell) trying to make a name for himself, with or without the help of his minions.

Universal’s 4K Ultra HD release of Minions: The Rise of Gru is a two-disc set that includes a 1080p Blu-ray copy of the film and a slipcover, with a digital code on a paper insert tucked inside. Yang, John DiMaggio, Julie Andrews, Kevin Michael Richardson, Lucy Lawless, Michelle Yeoh, Russell Brand, RZA, Steve Coogan, Steve Carrell, Taraji P. In the heart of the 1970s, amidst a flurry of feathered hair and flared jeans, Gru (Steve Carell) is growing up in the suburbs. On the run, Gru will turn to an unlikely source for guidance, Wild Knuckles, and discover that even bad guys need a little help from their friends. The music plays an integral role in this presentation and the entire surround platform is used to present its varying elements.
