About this deal

The band began touring to promote the album, but after a one-off gig in Ibiza, Lynott and Robertson had an acrimonious argument. Live And Dangerous was originally intended to be a studio album, working with producer Tony Visconti, however, Visconti had only had a small window in his schedule, so Lizzy’s frontman Philip Lynott came up with the idea that they spend two weeks together compiling a live album instead. This in-the-round approach confirms what we already knew, namely that Lizzy were on-point every night.

A pair of shows recorded in Philadelphia, and a night in Toronto feature the likes of the title track, the funky Dancing In The Moonlight, and set opener Soldier Of Fortune from it. There is some overlap of tracks between the two albums, though Still Dangerous is completely live with no overdubs. To celebrate the 45th anniversary of Thin Lizzy’s 1978 live album Live And Dangerous, Universal Music Catalogue will release a definitive 8CD super deluxe edition featuring a newly remastered version of the album and alongside it all the gigs recorded for Live and Dangerous! As well as the full album, remastered by Andy Pearce and Matt Wortham, it featured two additional tracks from the period that were not originally included on the album (although they were later released on the Killers Live EP in 1981).As for the actual set, it's great BUT for the love of God, start putting the CDs in their own sleeves instead of this book format. The booklet is packed with rare photos / memorabilia and includes sleeve notes by Mojo's Mark Blake.

Here was a band so photogenic they could have helmed Paris Fashion Week, should its ’70s purview have alighted on hard rock couture.

Whenever there is a poll of the greatest live albums of all time, the original album is always there. Lynott said that there were a few necessary overdubs, but "anything else would have ruined the atmosphere on those recordings and made a mockery of putting out a live album".

My sister told me many years ago about Phil leaving a suitcase full of demos and songs fir safe keeping.

This box set is the definitive version of the album, containing all the shows that make up the record newly mixed by Ben Findlay from the original multi-tracks, mastered by Andy Pearce and overseen by Guitarist Scott Gorham. To promote the album, the group filmed a gig at the Rainbow Theatre, London on 29 March 1978 for a television broadcast. The band had rearranged "Still in Love with You" to be slower and more emotional than the original studio version, and the version on Live and Dangerous was considered by Putterford the highlight of Lynott's musical career. According to Visconti, the album was "75% recorded in the studio" with only the drums and audience noise remaining from the original live recordings.

NME reviewer Tim Chester declared Live and Dangerous "the best live album we ever heard" despite the alleged overdubs, which he dismissed as irrelevant. Not only that, but we also get a final show from London from the 1978 tour in support of the albums release. how good this band were, and this extended collection is a must for any Robbo era Lizzy Fan, or any rock fan. Such staunch commitment to the cause was obvious to those who witnessed Lizzy’s November 1976 shows at Hammersmith Odeon, and to punters who bought Live And Dangerous upon its release some 18 months later.Brian Downey is THE most underrated drummer in rock - he shines all the way through this, Phil is brilliant, hardly missing a word or a note, Robbo is Robbo, but the understated flair shines through, and Gorham shows why he was essential to the band. Robertson subsequently quit Thin Lizzy permanently to form Wild Horses with former Rainbow bassist Jimmy Bain. Rejoice too in the spontaneous variations between performances while noting (despite what the original gatefold might have implied) that most come from the second night in Philadelphia (where Southbound was recorded at sound-check). But since Visconti had a very tight schedule Phil Lynott came up with the idea that they spend two weeks together compiling a live album instead. Naturally, the box set invites us to compare the various different versions of these long-familiar songs.
