The England team continues to work tirelessly to ensure that girls and women in sport receive equal recognition and treatment, whatever level they are playing at. i started reading this book with the view of “oh i like beth mead, let’s read this” but as i got further into the book, i realised just how much i related to beth, from her mental journey, to the locations (eg southampton, whitby, and st albans). I loved this book, it was fascinating to read about Beth Meads football journey from day 1 until present day. As someone who used to play football myself when I was younger, I found much of the earlier years highly relatable. Now, Beth shares the challenges that shaped her, what she faced on the journey to the top, and the life events that made her stronger, from being dropped from the England squad and receiving devastating family news to finding her best form under the guidance of Jonas Eidevall and Sarina Wiegman.

I’m a huge Gooner (unofficially crowned as the biggest Gooner at Northville High School) but I’ve really only paid attention to the men’s game. I love Beth Mead and I became especially fascinated by her during the Euros when she ended up being the top scorer. Motivational, touching, and very grounded in humanity, it's a great read that's left me excited to see what Beth does next in her football career.I re-watched and re-watched Russo’s back heel goal and then watched the final quite literally on the edge of my seat or on the floor closer to the TV because I couldn’t sit still with the excitement and then I couldn’t stop dancing around after the win. I felt like I was having a conversation with Beth and she was just telling me her story sitting next to me. Success at the Euros has significantly increased the profile of women's football and female sport generally, which can only be a good thing. I also loved Beth’s reflections on different managers she’s worked with and how they differed and the stories of her fellow England and Arsenal legends.

Beth reminds us that despite the fact that women’s football has come a long way, especially since the Euros, it is still massively underfunded and lacking in resources compared to the men. Beth Mead is one of the world's most talented footballers - Golden Boot winner and Player of the Tournament at the UEFA Euro 2022, England Player of the Year 2021-22, Arsenal Player of the Season 2021-22, and runner-up for the 2022 Ballon d'Or. From being placed in the local boys' team as a child because her mum wanted her to run off her boundless energy to joining Middlesbrough FC's Centre of Excellence and making her professional debut at Sunderland, Beth and women's football have come a long way. Filled with positive lessons and an exclusive account of England's triumphant Euros campaign, Beth offers readers of all ages a heartfelt, behind-the-scenes look into her remarkable journey to glory. talking about the way her anxiety and dislike for leaving her comfort zone really resonated with me.

Beth takes a dive into her own personal life and what has happened over her career which helps her strive to be the best player, she takes difficult events in her life and uses them to power her mentality for the game. Beth Mead and Leah Williamson captured my attention in that final, because a) they are world-class footballers and b) I knew they played for Arsenal. The very core message of this book (besides stressing the importance of women’s sports) is simply that there is more to life than just football, and that you never truly know what someone is dealing with despite succeeding on the pitch. The 103 third parties who use cookies on this service do so for their purposes of displaying and measuring personalized ads, generating audience insights, and developing and improving products. A very inspiring story that journals Beth Mead's football career from the start all the way up until the infamous Euros win.

I can relate to that all too well, and it was really encouraging to read that such a star player struggles with the same worries. She was also named Player of the Tournament and has since won England Women's Player of the Year, the BBC Women's Footballer of the Year 2022 and been named runner-up for the 2022 Ballon d'Or Feminin. I got through the book quite quickly, and felt myself reliving the Euros and the emotions I felt watching the games. I loved when Beth told Vivianne Miedema that they’d both been nominated for a Ballon d'Or and Viv “stared impassively” and said “Yes, it’s my fifth time.
