About this deal

We have seen how that can play out in this country recently and things are no different across the pond. So, you’ll gather that James Comey’s foray into fiction isn’t a resounding success for me but others disagreed so be sure to check the more positive reviews.

Whether she will remain in that position is a question that Comey appears to have deliberately left open for a sequel. While the killing of a disgraced former governor appears unconnected to the trial, the fallout from his death means a guilty verdict hangs in the balance.A great crime thriller that pulls on some great policing, as well as strong courtroom drama, Comey keeps the reader hooked as the story progresses. Horticultural Faux Pas (plants out of season or growing zones, like daffodils in autumn or bougainvillea in Alaska): NO But I had to look up the garden-like Pomander Walk to see if it was a real place.

Much of this has to do with Comey’s peculiar decision to treat the mob figures and the lead federal agent as anachronistic, old New York archetypes. That unique perspective gives the novel much of its allure, but it’s the unforgettable characters, shocking twists, and courtroom scenes as authentic as they are dramatic that will leave readers looking forward to more from this bold new talent in the genre. A. [Robert] Morgenthau to lunch on a regular basis to try and build, repair, whatever damage was done. A mobster’s trial and the murder of a former New York governor reveal a possible intersection between the Mafia and politics. Comey does a great job, illustrating the investigative and judicial side of a case throughout, keeping the best for last in this stunning debut thriller. This is a legal thriller that primarily follows Nora Carleton, a US Attorney, dealing with organized crime, whose latest case has a connection to the murder of a Harvey Weinstein-ish ex-governor. Comey’s experience as a New York City mob prosecutor brings plenty of credibility to this fast-paced legal drama. I’d be interested to know how much os this book was plotted and written by Mr Comey himself and how much help he had but overall I enjoyed it. He proved himself to be a fine storyteller, with a life that had given him plenty of fodder for stories.

As the witness’s testimony concludes, a note is passed to the prosecution offering up information into the assassination of a disgraced former New York governor, murdered in his penthouse apartment just days before. In an interview with NPR, Comey acknowledged, "An editor of non-fiction nudged me to, and at first I resisted. Central Park West” starts promisingly enough: The philandering former governor of New York, Tony Burke, is confronted by his estranged wife, Kyra, in their luxury apartment. How could I resist reading a debut crime novel written by the former Director of the FBI, James Comey? The Judge is informed that “the federal authorities are actively investigating to determine who killed Tony Burke…the feds told some or all of this to the DA’s office, which has not provided anything about it to the defense. When we first meet Nora Carleton and Benny Dugan, they are in the middle of a high-stakes trial that will see a prominent criminal put away for a long time.
