The subwoofer also doesn’t attach as naturally to the bottom end of the main soundbar’s dynamic range with some types of music as it does with movies, again making it hard to to settle into your favourite tracks as comfortably as you’d like. It is fully functional and has been professionally refurbished, inspected, tested and cleaned to good condition by qualified sellers. And because it's wireless you have more placement options as it doesn’t need to be linked to the soundbar by a cable.
Via Optical, the Samsung HW-Q930B can playback both common surround sound formats, Dolby Digital and DTS. It provides an enjoyable listening experience that's suitable for lots of different types of audio content. This process saves money for you, as well as reducing waste, landfill, and its eventual detrimental effect on our planet.However, while these extra channels do increase the general presence of the rear speakers in the Q990B’s overall sound balance, the Q930B manages to disperse its forward side-channel sounds well enough from the main soundbar not to leave you feeling (unless you have a really huge room) as if there’s a glaring ‘gap’ in the Dolby Atmos sound dome. Although they're both Dolby Atmos soundbars with many of the same sound enhancement features, the main difference between the two bars is the satellites that are included. The net result of all the Q930B’s various changes creates a sense that Samsung has, for arguably the first time, properly thought through the Q930B as a proper surround sound step down from its flagship model.
With a dedicated built-in centre speaker and Active Voice Amplifier this soundbar analyses the sound in the room to ensure you hear every conversation and every whisper, even over the hum of a vacuum cleaner. It soon becomes apparent, though, that the Q930B is quite the upgrade from previous Samsung stepdown soundbars, in terms of both the features it supports and the sound quality it delivers. The front-mounted LED does an effective job of helping you track which inputs and sound settings you’re using, and the Samsung Smart Things app (for iOS and Android) is now much more effective than previous editions have been at helping you both connect Bluetooth devices and tweak aspects of the soundbar’s set up.So if money’s no object, and you can cope with the Q990B’s larger main soundbar, the home cinema fan in us would urge you to step up to Samsung’s flagship model. Particularly disappointing is the appearance of only one HDMI input partnering the HDMI output, rather than the two you get with the Q930B. It still boasts a very promising 8-inch driver, but there’s no raised reflector unit sitting over the driver to help it disperse its sound more widely and smoothly. Probably inevitably for a soundbar that has so much to offer for what is in the circumstances surprisingly little money, the Q930B does come with a compromise or two in tow. Underpinning the surprisingly large and detailed sound created by the Q930B’s rear and front components is some serious bass from the subwoofer. No longer do you feel as if the sound is getting rudely ‘chopped off’ somewhere to the side of you, and instead you immediately feel wrapped up at the heart of a much more satisfying and immersive experience.
