Wi-Fi 6 promises faster data rates, longer range, and better support, but Google decided to stick with Wi-Fi 5 (802. Yes, you can use another Nest WiFi Router unit as a point (when you set it up in the Google Home app, pretend you're looking for a new Nest WiFi Point). To keep all of your devices connected, we suggest reusing the same network name (SSID) and password as your old router. Unlike a more traditional Wi-Fi router, this method reduces weak spots and ensures you have great wireless internet regardless of where in the building you are.

The Google Nest Wifi is an excellent mesh router system with impressive top speeds, strong performance at range, easy-to-use features and stable band steering. In addition to being a major force on the internet and the way in which we use it, Google has also become a big player in how people get online in the first place. Nest's lack of Wi-Fi 6 support might give you legitimate pause if you want something future-proofed, especially given that Wi-Fi 6 will only grow more and more relevant as more devices continue to adopt it.You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. If you need access to functions like port forwarding or some such, you better go for a more traditional model from the likes of Linksys or Netgear. Here’s a full breakdown of both of Google’s mesh Wi-Fi systems so you can decide which one is right for you. You'll need to factory reset your Google Wifi network through the app, and then set up a new network.

Nest Wifi and even Nest Wifi Pro continue to use the Google Home app to set up and make changes to your network as well as QR codes to pair new devices. While Google’s Point bundles come with a white model, Google wants its Points to blend into your decor, so it also offers pale blue or pale pink options.Overall I still got reasonably good speeds near the Points, but it still seems like a strange decision. However, it does introduce the grim possibility of somebody else doing exactly the same, without you ever knowing. Like the Google Wifi before (and like most other mesh networks), the dual-band Nest Wifi doesn't separate the 2. The number of devices that can support Wi-Fi 6 is still pretty low, but support would have helped for a device that’s supposed to be somewhat future-proof.

They are used only by Column Rads or the trusted partners we work with, where they are used for marketing, statistics and personalised ads. Netgear's ping to a server located on the other end of Kentucky was only noticeably higher than average during 5 tests out of 120. With Nest WiFi, each point acts as a smart speaker, fitted with Google Assistant, so you can use voice controls in whichever room you place them. Devices that aren't Wi-Fi 6E compatible will still work with Nest Wifi Pro, they just won't be able to access the 6 GHz band.

Besides being easy to set up and configure, the Nest Wifi features a brand new design, adds Wi-Fi 5 support and the router as well as its two satellites also all work as smart speakers. On their own, none of the system's routers were able to muster speeds much faster than 50Mbps or so back there, and my home has a 300Mbps fiber internet connection. Close as it was, Nest's network seemed a little more robust than the others, with an average upload speed of 229Mbps throughout the home compared to 166Mbps and 169Mbps for Eero and Netgear, respectively.

In addition to being a mesh Wi-Fi system with Wi-Fi 5 support, each of the Nest Wifi units also acts as a Google Home smart speaker.

The Google Home app lets you create groups of devices on your network and then pause their internet access whenever you like.
