In this thread, you'll find a comprehensive list of anime and manga licensed in the fourth quarter (Oct-Dec) of 2017. Nakamura looks like a lot of other protagonists in Syundei works which doesn't really mean much, just a thought. It's important to note that King in Limbo was originally published in 2017, before the COVID-19 pandemic, making this feel just a teensy bit prescient.

The art style does actually shift subtly through the volume (something I would have never noticed if not for the author’s note) due to the unusually long amount of time the volume was serialized over, but the basic designs stay consistent and it’s a fun change compared to the other art styles you’re most likely to see in a BL manga from 2017. Kudos to Seven Seas for striking out into BL territory; this is their first title and as it has a Teen rating, makes an ideal addition to any library, high school or otherwise, seeking to expand its LGBT resources. To people who are putting this on manga sites, please make sure to credit the original translator or get permission first from the translators. is good about using “gay situations” as the set-up for a joke but not as the joke itself; one of the most memorable gags in the entire volume is when Nakamura meets Hirose’s older sister, who looks just like him, is smitten, and Nakamura spends the rest of the chapter thinking “maybe I’m bi? I found it weirdly relatable as the main character loves octopus, has trouble making friends even though they try, and also is never sure when they’ve actually acquired that friendship. The Glomp: The boys' teacher Otogiri is often on the receiving end of these by Hirose after he stuck up for his pupil in Chapter 10. If the “wholesome” medal is meant to protect younger readers, then be extremely careful with what you choose to bestow it upon. Finding really cute BL manga that doesn’t fall into harmful story tropes is pretty rare, so I consider this a win. Menudas risas me he echado con las desventuras de Nakamura-kun, es taaaan tierno, vamos, que en cuanto salga publicado en inglés me lo voy a comprar. NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Witness what the gods do after dark in the third volume of a stylish and contemporary reimagining of one of the best-known stories in Greek mythology, featuring a brand-new, exclusive short story from creator Rachel Smythe.

So, I absolutely loved the first book and thought it was adorable but also a breath of fresh air for BL manga. The last few years have seen a growing interest in LGBTQ manga in the West, with titles like My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness and My Brother’s Husband connecting with readers and collecting major awards recognition. Sometimes Hirose wears a different shirt under the jacket, but that is most prevalent in his summer uniform. The story isn't anything new, what with the school cultural festival, cross dressing for a school play, and a class trip thrown in to help cover your manga trope bingo card, but it is well done and easy to sink into. While Nakamura describes Hirose as having slightly tanned skin, Hirose is always drawn with the same or slightly similar skin tone as every other character in the manga.

except it's about this anxious friendless nerd boy who just really wants to be friends with the cute boy in his class (and. Obviously I would love to see more of Nakamura’s life and antics but I would also love to see more from Syundei! I’ve never read a boys love manga or seen many that don’t feel like it’s fetishisation of homosexuality but this feels very real and even sub-verges the fetishising in funny ways. But Nakamura is more resilient than he might be able to admit to himself and in spite of all the obstacles that fate seems to throw in his path, Hirose begins to acknowledge his existence.

I thought it was going to be a parody BL, with no real romance, but Syundei sensei slotted in a really sweet and low-key emotional scene at the end which stole my heart. It's an unabashedly sweet and light-hearted Slice of Life story, focusing more on comical hijinks and silly conflicts than serious romance, but all the while developing the relationship between its two leads. Most of what Nakamura does ends up backfiring amazingly on him, and overall, the opinion his classmates have of him stays more or less the same, but he manages to slowly become closer to Hirose which was his main goal anyway. Feels more like random vignettes that just kind of set up a humorous situation and don't really resolve them or advance a relationship or overall plot.Floral Motifs: Like any decent love interest, Hirose is often accompanied by flowers in the background when he shows up. Arandou Tamura ( 用村亜乱堂, Tamura Arandou) Voiced by: Ai Orikasa (audio drama) [3] A member of the drama club. The series was praised for its 1980s-reminiscent artwork, with Sean Gaffney of Manga Bookshelf favorably comparing it to Ranma ½ and Kimagure Orange Road.
