Fat Bloke on a Bike' follows Paul's novice attempt at cycle-touring as, huffing and puffing, he hauls his seventeen stones from Weardale in the North Pennines, along the North Sea Coast, and through Scotland's cities, islands and highlands to Inverness. But I do love the Mediterranean climate in autumn, especially when combined with the history, vibrancy and culture of a great city like BCN. In fact, it’s possibly my most favourite city in the world (closely followed by New York City, San Francisco and Barcelona). Finally, as my Brompton has a Brooks saddle, it is not so easy to carry as it is with the standard seat, so I tend to hold it by the frame. I'd like to stick to the legal UK standard spec but am looking to get as much grunt from the motor as possible. As it happens, it did help in that way, but I think I’m going to change back, the next time I need to replace the chain and sprockets. You can fit a Brompton to a Cycleops turbo trainer after all, but only if you purchase the 20/24″ Wheel Adapter, and only if you have a single or two-speed model. But alas, 10 years of sitting in the shed plus years of abuse and my bike has had it, so I need a new one. But alas, as with many Brompton related tasks and modifications, simple and straight-forward it is not. As for the marker pen, I’m not sure I would be brave enough to do that and suspect that it would just wear off or smudge with time, and if you get it wrong, that too would become an annoyance, especially if you couldn’t get the old mark off.
