Based on Agatha Christie's beloved novel, this tale of unbridled passion and jealousy is filled with wicked twists and turns that will have you guessing until the shocking finale. Kenneth Branagh directs and stars as 'Hercule Poirot' in a new film version of Agatha Christies 'Death on the Nile', following his previous outing as Poirot in 2017's 'Murder on the Orient Express'. A visually sumptuous and quintessentially British production, Death on the Nile won an Oscar® for Anthony Powell’s costume design and introduced Peter Ustinov in his first portrayal as the Belgian detective Poirot. If you do suffer this atrocity to the end, my serious advice for recovery is to watch the David Suchet version on the revamped ITVX. Widely disliked and envied, the young woman is soon discovered by Poirot to have had plenty of enemies, many of whom turn out to be on board. While I enjoyed the movie quite a bit, I must say that the previous part felt more interesting, the murder happened quicker in the Murder on the Orient Express (therefore it was more tense) and more importantly it's way easier to guess who the murderer is in Death on the Nile is, after you see the clues shown (I have correctly predicted who the killer is around 30 minutes before end of the movie, in previous part it wasn't obvious at all).

I may be too 'nit-picky' but if one i going to make a film based on Christie's novel stick to details. Death On the Nile Kenneth Branagh directs and stars as Belgian detective Hercule Poirot in this US crime drama based on the novel by Agatha Christie. I have bought this Blu-Ray due to an upcoming release of the Haunting in Venice, which I'm quite excited about.

Not as enjoyable as Branagh's Murder On the Orient Express and no where near as fun as Peter Ustinov's Death On the Nile or even David Suchet's version, it's a bit dark as Branagh decides to make this personal for Poirot and so the Belgian detective is a bit more moody. A third Branagh Agatha Christie movie is coming soon "A Haunting in Venice' based on the book 'The Halloween party'. A visually sumptuous and quintessentially British production, Death on the Nile won an Oscar for Anthony Powell's costume design and introduced Peter Ustinov in his first portrayal as the Belgian detective Poirot. in a desperate attempt to not be cancelled himself, straight white male Branagh seizes every available opportunity to tick a box and say 'look at me, I'm a diversity champion. Given when this story is set, a boat full of mainly white males with their suitably period female companions is kind of what you might expect.

A young heiress, Linnet Doyle (Emily Blunt) is murdered while enjoying a pleasure cruise down the Nile with her new husband, Simon Doyle (JJ Field), aboard a luxury liner occupied by a diverse set of extremely wealthy passengers. Set in the 1930s, the film follows Poirot as he hunts a killer responsible for the murder of a rich heiress aboard a steamship travelling down the Nile. When the detective learns of the woman's demise, he begins an investigation that involves observing all of the other travelers on the ship. I had watched the first part (Murder on the Orient Express) and now have given a try to this adaptation of another Agatha Christie's classic. One can only hope this effort fails sufficiently so Branagh is forbidden from ever going near anything Poirot ever again.
