About this deal

To complement the original DadPad® set of Cards, the DadPad® has now been developed further as an App to act as an on-the-go supportive guide. Stoke-on-Trent City Council has worked with the NHS Midlands Partnership Foundation Trust and DadPad to launch the easy-to-use, freely downloadable resource for new dads and dads-to-be. It also provides guidance on how to support and seek help for your partner and yourself as you adjust to your new roles.

DadPad is packed with information to give new fathers guidance on how to develop the confidence and practical skills needed to help look after their babies’ physical and emotional needs. Rowena Chilton, Head of Midwifery at Hinchingbrooke Hospital, said: 'It’s fantastic news that DadPad has launched across our maternity services. The Dad Pad - covering all the essential information dads told us they need to know and presented in a step-by-step, manual style so it’s easy to follow and understand. Traditionally, lots of information, advice and support is female-focused, but partners can feel equally unsure or overwhelmed. This is a fantastic, easy to use guide about safe baby care and how to support partners during the perinatal period. Crucially, the app provides dads with guidance on how to support and seek help (when required) for their partners and themselves as they adjust to their new roles. The DadPad was created by listening to what dads, their partners and professionals asked for in relation to preparing for fatherhood, what to expect and how to care for their baby.

As new UK NHS Trusts or relevant Health Authorities adopt the DadPad® App, more locations will appear, as will new up-to-date information and features such as explanatory animations and videos. When dads across Cornwall were asked what would help them in their new role as a father, they asked for a ‘Dad Pad’.Being rolled out as part of the UK’s Maternity Transformation Programme’s Better Birth’s Strategy, the information and signposting you get will be local to your NHS Trust or relevant Health Authority. There are also details of local support groups for new dads and sources of help available in Kent and Medway.
