Plot: At the beginning of the story, Emelin accidently shows her magic to Creon, the Fae murderer who has been sent to wipe out Cathra after they installed an iron ward. They don’t hide from each other, they tease and they flirt, and every moment between them feels like it’s dripping with anticipation. I can’t wait to explore more of the world and magic because I feel like I was given enough info to continue, but definitely need more to be satisfied.

All these creatures: fae, demons, gods, alves, pheonixes, vampires and nymphs - with their own kind of magic. She's definitely worth reading about - she's strong throughout the book and her background made me empathetic towards her and angry for her but there were some places where she was a bit unkind towards the MMC. Along the way, they’ll unlock wisdom for those of us navigating our own coupledoms, and for those still seeking their perfect match.

I liked that he learned the equivalent of ASL in the universe the author created to communicate with her. Emelin is very smart and determined and I love that she talks back, evil though he could kill her with his pinky. The one part of the story I really liked is when Emelin and Creon decide to test each other's self-restraint, but if I’m being honest, I expected more of these "midnight encounters". The rest of the story takes place on the Fae Isles, and more precisely, in and around the Crimson Court of the Mother. LGBTQ+ Fae romance with lots of adventure and attention for non-binary characters: what’s not to love?

I really loved the forced proximity, the one bed trope and the fact our MMc must communique via sign language or writing on paper really brought a dynamic that I really enjoyed between our MCs. A morally grey character with a traumatic past, an improbably romance, great chemistry, spicy scenes, loved it all!I hope that next book will be available as an audiobook because I'm invested in this story very much. While there were a few frustrating moments, as there are with most books ((yes, even ACOTAR (my fave)), this series so far - I’m currently 39% into book 2 - which has been so incredibly good. it took me a few pages to really get into it, but once done , I couldn’t put my kindle down to save my life . Alongside the love story, Creon and Emelin are in a dangerous situation, facing many enemies, and if anyone uncovers their plan it will mean instant death for both of them.
