If you’re looking for a crime book that will have you guessing right to the end, Hope to Die and the rest of the DI Adam Fawley series is a must read.

A gunshot is heard at a farmhouse late one night and the police arrive only to find a young man dead on the floor and the owner of the house claiming self defense. I really loved that the story is told through a mixture of narrative, transcripts of interviews, Wikipedia-style entries, online chats, letters, news headlines and lots more. And just when I thought I had a fix on the unfolding events Hunter threw another hand grenade into the mix and I had to think again.Cara Hunter also makes great use of some literary / publishing mechanics that really embellish and enhance the overall impact of the book. Police arrive at the scene, and even with their past experience, they find the sight of a dead man, shot in the head at very close range, pretty hard to stomach. If you’ve never read the series then don’t worry as the author has included an excellent summary at the beginning.

Although I enjoyed this, number six in the series, I did find myself tiring of what felt like an excessive use of artifacts.When links are discovered to a past child murder, it seems that DI Fawley and his team have a very complex tale to unravel.
