About this deal

It’s effectively a fan on detachable tripod feet with a pole, at the top of which there are six spokes designed to hold up to 12 hangers of spin-dried or well-wrung damp clothing (up to 10kg). Although it had a longer drying time for clothes than our two highest scorers, coming in at two hours 36 minutes, this was still notably quicker than the six and a half hours taken by our unheated airer. Hannah has an MA in Magazine Journalism and has previously worked as a freelance lifestyle and women’s sports journalist, working for Stylist, Sky Sports and more. The BLACK + DECKER 3-Tier Heated Electric Airer is the perfect addition to any household seeking a cost efficient and space-saving laundry drying solution.

The shelves on this product only swing one way - any slight movement in the wrong direction and the plastic mounting breaks exposing the wires. In fact, the platforms can be folded down on either side so that it takes up even less space if you only need to dry half a load. I was concerned the fan would be noisy, but unlike a tumble dryer, it’s very quiet at less than 52dB. It performs similarly to Lakeland’s Dry:Soon deluxe three-tier heated airer, but it is currently cheaper.Laura started writing Swears By articles for Mumsnet in 2021 and has recently taken over responsibility for laundry content. Dehumidifiers can shorten drying time by 25 percent, while also reducing damp and mould in the home. Being four tiers tall, it’s a bit wobbly, so has been designed with big plastic feet to keep it upright.

This Black and Decker accessory pack is designed explicitly for use with the Black and Decker 3 Tier heated airer. If you live in a small flat, you may find it far less practical than the Lakeland or Black + Decker dryers, since it’s wide and low and takes up an unnecessary amount of space when folded out.Black+Decker's Deluxe Electric Laundry Airer delivers you ample amounts of space to hang wet laundry. Testers liked the fact you can lie clothes flat in the middle and found it easy to fit a load of washing on. They then wash and dry various loads of laundry, including clothes and bedsheets, and time how long it takes until each load has finished drying. The drawbacks are that it uses a 230V British plug and would be much less effective on a 110V American power supply if you’re travelling, and it is a little noisy (think hair dryer on low setting). The main difference with a heated airer is that you need to plug it in, so it’s worth checking there’s an accessible socket close to where you plan to position yours when in use.

Completely different from all the others, this is no good at all for domestic laundry drying but we can’t resist a quirky gadget. There are ones with wings, large three-tier ones and drying pods aimed at people who are short on space. Thanks to its tall frame, this is suited to drying sheets and longer garments such as trousers and dresses. It didn’t distribute heat as evenly as some other models, and it struggled with heavier garments, but it’s inexpensive and has the lowest running cost of all at three pence an hour.Clothes took over two and a half minutes to dry and testers found the airer's temperature was consistent throughout use.
