Description

Tuphall Road (A) is shown from it’s junction with Quarry Street and Bent Road, with the Gasholder (B) to it’s right. Education beyond the age of 11 then requiring payment, Harry worked part-time at the local flaxmill to fund that. He raised vast amounts of money for the war effort during World War I, for which he was subsequently knighted in 1919. It has a vaulted beamed ceiling, timber clad walls, underfloor heating, exposed stonework along with a freestanding roll top bath completing the luxuriousness.

In the last month I have picked up 3 books by first time authors, and this is by far the best of the three (I couldn’t even finish The Borrower by Rebecca Makki. The only character that I could relate to for short flashes was Celia, the mom, and those moments were too few and far between.Affording generous and versatile four bedroom accommodation the property is ideal for a family and is enhanced externally by delightful and extensive gardens with stable block.

In her promising debut novel Bent Road, Lori Roy proves that dark secrets hide even in the most wide-open places. Shortly after the family finds a farm to rent and after enrolling the children in school, the community is upset by the disappearance of another child who resembles both Eve and Evie. The gasometer in the background was in Tuphall Road and the old gas light brings back memories of climbing them to turn the gas off. I liked the writing style in which the author's use of several narrators allowing each one to tell the story from their point of view. The majority of pages are undamaged with some creasing or tearing, and pencil underlining of text, but this is minimal.
