About this deal

Every regiment had a squad of Sappers who were generally dressed as grenadiers with red epaulettes and a cross axes badge on the upper sleeves, a bearskin cap with red cords and feather but no plate. All in all it is a very good, well written piece but if you are only interested in the Napoleonic wars, this will not be so good. There are a few little questions that I'm left with - a little confusion as to the differences in uniform of the 8 Bns of the 60th Regt, wondering why the Baker Rifle isn't mentioned (as well as various carbine variants), and pondering the exclusion of Artillery and Marine uniforms. Prussia followed suit in 1721 when Frederick the Great used hussar units extensively during the War of the Austrian Succession.

Voltigeurs wore a yellow-buff collar, green epaulettes with a yellow crescent, and yellow-buff bugle horns on the turnbacks. K. Brown Military Collection at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, USA, where they currently reside.

The colourful military uniforms of hussars from 1700 onwards were inspired by the prevailing Hungarian fashions of the day. This was in contrast to the gorgeous and complex uniforms with many decorations of his marshals and those around him.

The cuffs are plain and are closed with bone buttons, an excellent shirt for civilian or military impressions. These light hussars were ideal for reconnaissance and raiding sources of fodder and provisions in advance of the army. The 6th regiment in circa 1810–1812 wore a white helmet mane and red plume, a blue coatee with orange edged silver cuffs and collar, red epaulettes with a white crescent, and orange laces on the chest. See our productions of hussar sabres and all our sabres with blue and gold blades, nobody else can do the same at the moment! I now believe this item is out of print and may not be reprinted, so its unlikely this seller has any of tese books to sell, even though it is still listed as being available. We try to translate all french comments in english, but sometimes time lacks, if you find parts of interesting comments, still in french, warn us, we'll translate them. Raised from sailors of the French navy who had distinguished themselves, the battalion of Marins wore a distinctive, elaborate uniform resembling that of the hussars. Following their example, hussar regiments were introduced into at least twelve European armies by 1800. Waist coats and trousers were batched dyed a lemon colour, however this quickly bleached in the sun.

The 13th regiment, in 1812, wore a white helmet mane, a wine red coatee with five white laces in front. Usually, this uniform consisted of a short jacket known as a dolman, or later a medium-length atilla jacket, both with heavy, horizontal gold braid ( sujtás) on the breast and yellow braided or gold Austrian knots ( vitézkötés) on the sleeves, a matching pelisse (a short-waisted over-jacket often worn slung over one shoulder), coloured trousers, sometimes with yellow braided or gold Austrian knots at the front, a busby ( kucsma) (a high, fur hat with a cloth bag hanging from one side, although some regiments wore the shako ( csákó) of various styles), and high riding boots (often Hessian boots).
